Can anyone tell me why this won't bloom? It seems to be very happy and all my other cleros. bloom. Any ideas?
Clerodendrum shooting star
OK, this is the first year I have had it. I will start looking for buds.
They are a winter bloomer, and they hate cold. They are one of the more cold sensitive cleros besides the musical notes. I've had one in the ground for years with no blooms...it scrapes through the winter and thrives in the summer. Needs warm humid conditions for blooming.
Thanks, I have it in a pot and will keep it in the greenhouse. Have the musical notes also, so glad you told me that. I have really enjoyed that one this year.
The musical notes show a shared clerodendrum characteristic, in that it does have the ability to go dormant when it's unhappy with conditions. I had one I thought died in a frost, but the main trunk was still firm, so I left it. It remained dormant through the following summer, and didn't come back until last summer. Was interesting. The other Clerodendrum that does that often is Panticulatam-
The shooting start seems to also find it's way back despite it's distaste of cold, but it's always the brides maid and never the bride when it comes to blooming in my garden!
Mine blooms on and off from Jan to April. What a show, but as you said, RJ, can't stand the cold.

I made the mistake of putting mine in the ground and it tried to take over. I cut it back to about 3 feet this past spring and it's about 8 feet now! I expect it to be gorgeous when it blooms next; provided we don't get another freeze!
If anybody cares, I'm back in Fort Myers. So good to be home!
Happy gardening all!

However; now, I'm planning a trip out to the Houston area! No one is having surgery this time; just to visit my old stomping grounds and some new.
RJ, I went to the website of the nursery you mentioned and I can't wait to get there!!! Their prices are so reasonable.
I have to check schedule before having a definite date as I can't be gone when the "Ramble" is going on at Fairchild!!!!!
Marianne
When are you going to come and visit...Your not going to ignore me and the Jungle garden are you?
What!? I never!! I'll choose to think it was a quick trip...
I'm thinking she's talking about Caldwells nursery

RJ, I'd love to meet you and see the I know, Hetty, I know just this morning I said I wasn't going to buy more plants, but I'm having a terrible time shaking this addiction I have.
