Sad Story

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

The family with the property next door to mine had split up. The husband left and the wife couldn't afford the payments on the place. I saw the U-Haul one evening and heard a lot of noise the next day. Then they were gone, apparently. Don't know where they are now. More than a week later, I went down to the dry creek looking for a good rock for the garden. The creek goes between the two properties and curves back behind their place. That's when I found them. Cats! I am so depressed! They left them behind. I don't know for sure they ALL belong to that family, but suspect so. There were four kittens and 3 adult cats hanging around the property. I brought them food later later that day and discovered that someone else is attempting to feed them. Someone had left frozen chicken and ice cream outside. Yesterday I saw bacon...not cooked, either. Ick! I suspect maybe a kid is doing this? Someone just taking food out of the freezer or refrigerator. Is there anyone in the general San Antonio to Bandera, Texas area who could possibly take a cat or kitten? I hate to ask....but what can I do with these poor things? We have 5 older cats and can hardly afford the ones we have. The cats don't know me now and won't let me near them yet, but I can get them eventually. The last time I called the animal organizations in the area I couldn't get any of those to take a stray cat. I'll try calling again as soon as I can find the phone numbers, but may not get anywhere with that unless things have changed.
