OOOOOO look everybody!!

Blackshear, GA

Went plant shopping this weekend and found this ....coral medinilla. Did not know there was one. Very neat, not as pretty as my magnifica, but unusual and that is what I look for.

cool, where did you find such a plant. I like "unusual" plant too. But I'm trying to be good about tropicals, too many to haul in....

Blackshear, GA

Me too, I have no idea where I am going to put them. I have been bringing them in the house. If I think it will survive in the house, in it comes.
I found it at an Ace Garden Ctr. near where I live, they have the nicest plants and some different ones at times.

I've got to be firm with myself and not buy any more plants on impulse until I've planted all those sitting in pots awaiting their new home. There's just too many temptations, although I've been good for the last 2 weeks.

Fair Grove, MO(Zone 6b)

Our best intentions. Although I have a friend that has had some shrubs and 2 Musa Basjoo in pots for 2 yrs now. The poor musas are still in gallon pots. Compared to that I don't feel so bad if I leave plants in pots for a week or month.

Girl I got to go shopping with you. LOL Neat.

I find that if I plant them as soon as I get home or the next day, then I'm good. Except that we've had so much raining lately that it's putting me behind on my planting!

I don't even try to be good about impulse plant buying. I figure that they are good for air quality so I will never have to many. Now that's my story and I'm sticking to it. lol

I'm with Tina_A..

Since that is the same thing I told my husband as we were walking around a nice garden center this weekend. "They are good for air quality so I will never have too many!!"
He kept pulling me along telling me (jokingly) that I already have too many in the house and he will soon have to sleep in the dog house, because we are running out of space..

Its medinillia scortechinii. I have one, they are very nice.

Chickenville, FL(Zone 9a)

Here is a pic of my other Medinilla that I've had for a few years now. It was labeled Medinilla magnifica but it might be medinilla cumingii (least that is what one person told me). Anyhow, it is so easy to care for and blooms 10 mos out of the year. I love it.

Aww, no fair, Angel...I paid 25.00 for mine. Where did you find yours? I am only an hour away from Jax. I love the other one, but pretty sure that is not magnifica. I have one similar to that but the bloom wasn't as dark.

Here is magnifica...

Mine's flowers starts out light pink and the berries also start out light pink but then darken to hot pink as it ages until they are purple and pruny lol. I got the coral medinilla in Mandarin, FL.

Blackshear, GA

What store? Did they have other unusual things?

Chickenville, FL(Zone 9a)

sent you a dmail:)

Cool plants. No Ace Hardware around here carries anything like that. Do those plants thrive in the home? Are are they mainly GH plants as I read?

Chickenville, FL(Zone 9a)

My pink one is outside most of the year and in the garage or covered patio once it freezes. In a dry climate they might like to be in the greenhouse with humidity. I still have the coral one on the covered patio by a pond that gets slanted sun in the afternoon. They like a lot of humidity so my house prob wouldnt be good for them unless I kept it in the bathroom in the winter. Our Ace has awesome plants too. I have found out that not all Aces are created equal here though lol. Some have better stuff than others.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

How did your Coral Medinellas do over the winter? I found one yesterday at an Ace just south of Jacksonville. It is a nicely branched plant in a white 6" pot and was only $10 so I was happy. Strange but these folks did not seem to know a lot about their plants but they had an awesome selection.

Why don't we have Ace's like this where I live???????

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

too bad our ace hardware don't carry anything like that!

Blackshear, GA

They did great!! The magnifica is blooming now. The scortechinii has pretty muched bloomed constantly. The other one has not bloomed yet. I have a total of 7 - 4 magnifica, 2 scor. and one of the other. I just love them.

ardesia, do you know the exact location or the name of the Ace you stopped at? There are several in Jacksonville.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

The Ace I went to is at 12501 Jan Jose Blvd, just north of Julington Creek - which is south of Jacksonville. If you came south on 95 you would pick up 295 on your right and bear to the right on the long St. Johns River bridge because you want to take the first exit at the base of the bridge and go south on (Rt.13) San Jose Blvd. You will pass another Ace on your right but it is only so so by comparison. The one I like is a just few miles further down on your left.

Have fun if you get there.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

All these plants are beautiful.
