Brandy,
Do you have a picture? Is the flower red or the plant?Save me one and I will send the other you wanted.

Orangeburg, SC

The flower is supposed to be red. I bought a lot of them from a lady and she said that they were all red. It seems like I had seen them bloom last year at her house but im not sure.

Jumpin4joy,

I have things on your want list and might be interested in this lily, but first it would be nice to know the botanical name. I have been learning about Crinums this summer and have not seen any true Red Crinums. Only pinks and whites. I suspect the lilies you have may not be Crinums but something related, or something that is referred to as Crinum, but is actually from another plant family.

For instance, here is one called Spider Lily, but it is actually : Lycoris sanuinea
Does the bloom on the lily you have look like this?

Here is a Red Lily that grows commonly in the south and some people call this a crinum. It is also called Oxblood Lily or Schoolhouse Lily and the Botanical name is not in the Crinum group either. It is : Rhodophiala bifida

This is more of a standard trumpet lily shaped flower, only smaller. Does the Lily you have look more like this?

Here is yet another possibility. This is actually a Crinum, and is also referred to as a Spider Lily, also as Red Leaf Giant Crinum. The flowers are actually white on top, sort of redish or purplish underneath and the stems and leaves are redish on this one. The botanical name is: Crinum asiaticum var. 'procerum'

No they dont look like the ones in the pictures. The leaves are simular to Amarillas but slightly thicker. Dont know the botanical name. I lose tags to often to keep up with all the botanical names. I do know that it is called Criniums in South Carolina. The flowers I have seen have almost been a hotpink almost red. Sorry Like I said I got them from someone so I dont have picturesof blooms. They reach about 3 to 4 feet tall with blooms that are simular to the last picture but alot more stalky with long leaves. I have some in my yard that I know are hotpink and I will try to post a pic of the foliage after the rain stops.

Doesnt look like that one at all.

Thanks J4J, for posting the picture of the Leaves. Those do look like Crinum leaves, and it looks like the kind that has the trumpet shaped flowers. Maybe there are redder ones than I have seen.

I have sent you D-mail with pictures of some of my plant choices for trading.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

and I'd take some of all those others too! LOL

Orangeburg, SC

All the bulbs are a little larger than Golf ball size up to Grapefruit size. I will be trading the Golfball size or a little bigger. All are rooted and pretty big. No baby bulblets. Hope that is an idea.
