I now have lost all confidence in IDing Sparrows...other than a White Crowned and HOSP :(
Here is another pic I thought both of them were Clay Colored...am I right, or are these Chipping too? Something else?
CLOSED: Clay Colored, Chipping or other Sparrow?
Chipping
I should have taken more time with these, I cannot argue that they may be Clay-c S's. lol
I think birds should wear ID/name tags..HA!
I had 17 FOS Chipping Sparrows yesterday. Not much difference in them and Clays. The breast is more gray on Chippings, more buff colored on Clays. Breast appears more gray on these birds.
Hack, the streaks on your bird's breast indicate that it isn't either of these species. Looks like a Savannah Sparrow to me.
Humm, didn't pick up on the streaks on the breast, I'm going to put it on the ID forum and see what they say.
Thanks, because if it is a Savannah, it would be a new bird for me.

Been meaning to tackle this one for a couple of days!
First pic, I'm fairly sure (but not 100%!) are Clay-colored Sparrows; note the well-marked dark line running down from the bill (lateral throat stripe); that's less conspicuous on Chipping.
Hack's bird, I'd agree with Savannah Sparrow
