My neighbor has this growing in her shady garden. The prior neighbor planted it, and the current neighbors don't know what it is. It's escaped a bit and is spreading around her yard, growing in both shady and sunny areas. The stems are red on some of them, very pretty. I've been collecting the seeds and I'd like to put it in my yard, but I want to be sure it's not invasive first. Anyone know what it is? Sorry this was the best picture I could get today (borrowing my mother's camera):
Plant ID please!
Looks like a 4 o'clock to me

Yes, it is Four O'clock.
Thanks. Glad I asked, I'm not sure I want these then, looks like they'll keep spreading!
You can dig up the tubers and plant them in appropriate places or give them away.
I could. I've got a spot by the mail box that's too far away from the house for me to bother with watering, but we need something there. I know my neighbor doesn't tend hers and it lasted through the drought this summer, so it'd probably do well. But, if it escaped across the street I'd feel kind of guilty!
I think I'd start the seeds and then once they're bigger decide what to do with them :). It is a handsome plant IMO.
You can still pull up the tubers and store them for when you decide where to put them. I've got 2 sitting on my kitchen counter that I'm going to plant today.
I got two from Frostweed at the Arlington round up that I put into a large pot. I am afraid to put them out in the yard after reading some posts about them. Are they the same plants I grew up north as annuals from seed? I remember growing the yellow and pink kinds several times.
Chery;
Yes they are, and even though they spread, they are very easy to remove.
If you watch the after the flowers fade they will produce a lil black ball seed and reseed themselves
Young plants are easy to yank if you have too many.
I think I'm going to plant mine along the driveway near the house. If they drop seeds, they'll drop on the cement! LOL
