A collection of new Strep leaves! Hurray! Now that some of my leaves from Gail are developing roots, I feel hopeful that I can do this!

Congratulations Ellen! I am so excited for you! You won't be disappointed with Jim's leaves either. Great grower that Jim!!!:)
thanks i put some on here too if anyone wants,or we can trade
JIM
Jim sends very nice healthy sturdy leaves so you are going to get wonderful babies , when I first joined the forum , he sent me a bunch of strep leaves and they have nice big babies now and some of them have started to bloom so you will be so excited :) Enjoy and again Jim thank you so much for such lovely leaves and now gorgeous babies :)
Hugs :)
Connie
I'm so excited! I have my solo cups, foil pans with plastic lids, and soil mix all ready!
Connie- How long did it take to get blooms?
PS no more plants for at least a month;)
Yeah right Ellen! LOL
I can feel your excitement! I remember all too well how exciting it is. when does your stuff from cape cod come in?
Well Raising Jim sent me the leaves I think in Apr . and I planted them in my soil in the bottom with seed starting mix over that and they have done good but now I am trying perlite on the bottom and seed starting mix on top , I can't find promix anywhere around me so I have to use what I can find , the blooms have started in just the last week or so and I am sure the strep experts here will tell you you should cut off the buds to make the plants get bigger and I will but I just wanted to see one bloom so I know what they will look like , you know like peeking into a Christmas gift before Christmas :) it makes the grand opening that much more exciting :)
Hugs,
Connie
LOL, GrowHappy- I REALLY can't get any more plants UNLESS I buy a shelving unit with more lights- I'm out of space!
My order of insecticides and fertilizers from Cape cod should be here tomorrow.
Connie- I know exactly what you mean- and I love the blooms, I don't know if I'll have the discipline to really remove them:)
Ellen
pssss buy another stand
JIM
LOL Jim- I have to time it right or DH will think I've gone nuts! I have room in the laundry room- trust me, he doesn't go in there!
LOL Ellen , I can relate about the laundry room and my family is used to my crazy plant addiction , they know it makes me happy so they are good with it :)
Connie
Yeah Ellen, buy another plant stand to accomodate the newbies. Jim has the BEST advice! :)
I recently moved all the extra plants out of DD's room. Im thinking I may have to put a plant stand in there with lights. Uh oh. Just when she thought mommy had delivered her from plant overload.
Shanika , how can she get this nice addiction if she doesn't have plants to look at and see bloom , you are giving her a good addiction and then you have a good excuse to buy or trade for more plants :)
LOL Hugs
Connie :)
LOL, you are all too funny!
I really think this is way cheaper than buying clothing and makeup and jewelry... so it's good for me... distracts me from buying the other stuff! And plants reproduce!
I'm looking at this stand from Home Depot- http://www.homedepot.com/Storage-Shelves-Shelving-Systems-Free-Standing-Bookcases/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xr5Zbccz/R-100010588/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 however it's 36" wide instead of the 48" I'd want to accommodate the lights. All the wider ones look far more expensive.
Jim
Do you have any plant stands to spare ?? LOL......I know better than that!! Even with my recent losses when what makes it gets bigger I have to have at least one more!! I have plenty of room on the basement, but I can't do stairs anymore....bummer!!
Lynn
Connie, what a super justification! I'm going with this one- sounds good. LOL LOL
How could anyone resist addiction with strep blooms staring you in your face? Besides, her room is the coldest in the house. Strep heaven. LOL
Maybe I could convert my baker's rack into a full plant stand. The bottom shelf already has plants on it, but the top two have cookbooks and other stuff on it. OR maybe I could buy a smaller tiered shelving unit and place it in the living room. But then I'd have to get rid of some of the bigger floor plants. I can't sell those on eBay cause they are waaaaaaaaay too big. Yeah, Zoe's (my DD) gonna have to give up a corner in her bedroom. Poor girl.:-0
Ellen you should totally go for putting the new plant stand in the laundry room. Your husband won't notice since he never goes in there. Be careful of the lights protruding from under closed doors, though. LOL
I converted my baker's rack into a plant stand . . . before we moved, and needed to use it as a baker's rack again! But, I do have the lights ready just in case . . .
got my leaves today!! Thanks, JIM:)
So... where should I buy a 4' wide shelving unit?
I'm so excited! Will post pictures later...
Ellen
Home Depot or Lowe's has nice chrome plated or steel 48" shelves . . .
Thanks, Nichole! How much should I expect to pay for those shelves? (BTW, I keep forgetting to send you leaves, making a big post-it note now!)
Do the leaves really need 12 hours of lights per day? (I'm thinking of the avocado that germinated in my dark cabinet!)
My last question of the day (hopefully!) Is it ok to leave the domed leaves in a South-facing windowsill that is partially blocked by bushes?
Depends on if you building it one shelf at a time, or get the whole shelving unit at once . . . cost could be from $50 on up. Depends on the shelves you get . . . .
I don't think stuck leaves need 12 hours of light per day . . . I've heard some people put leaves in a windowsill and use the rising/setting of the sun for light. I really don't know about the direction of the window, though . . .
I often root leaves in a box on the floor, not even under the lights, but once they are rooted they will need better light.
As far as domed leaves in a south window....they should be okay, but if a lot of moisture occurs, especially if the dome is all clouded up,they can cook and rot, especially if they are AV leaves.
