Chimera plants from bloom stems , your experiences ?

Monticello, MN

Hi all ,

I was wondering if you have grown chimeras from the bloom stems of the plant , I have done it a few times and an potting up some today and just wondered who else does this and how successful you have been and on the average have they bloomed true for you , I have had suckers on the plants not bloom true but don't really know how common this is , please tell us your ways of growing and propagating Chimeras , I have only done beheading , bloom stems and suckesr but I have heard there are other ways too , something about making pin hole in the stem ? anyway please add your expertise too :)

Hugs ,

I've been thinking of trying to grow from the bloom stems, but haven't gotten up the nerve yet . . . I think that will be my winter project . . .

I just got my first chimera but it's so tiny it will probably be a long time before I can try this. I am very interested in hearing about how it's working for people too.

really Bonnie? Where do I find Kiki grow? I have several chimeras that I would like to try it on. God knows they don't have suckers yet and I'm not at all comfortable lopping off the crowns and all that jazz.:)

Monticello, MN

Bonnie , what is KIKi grow please and how can it make a chimera leaf grow a chimera baby , it does happen of course cause that is how you get a new one but it is a mutation and doesn't happen a lot in my experience :)

Thank Bonnie :)

I think that what I will do this winter is . . . not only for chimera's, but for others as well . . . is do all the propagating from the blooms! That will be so cool!

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

Hi;
I forgot where i bought it,but if you type in kiki grow, i am sure you will come up with a source, all you have to do, is scratch a stem with a needle & put the kiki grow on it & it does the rest itself. in a few days you will see a new plant begin.really cool & does work.

I am not positive but maybe it's spelled keiki grow and maybe I saw it at Cape Cod but I can't remember for sure.

Thank you all for your help , I have never heard of this product but will look for it and Jim I will save you a baby of Princess :) she is one of my favorite Chimeras , I have a lot of them but she still shines among them

Thank you Bonnie for posting about this product and Anna thank you for chiming in too about the spelling and Cape Cod , that is what I love about all of you , you so kindly help others to enjoy this love and passion to grow lovely plants and be successful at it , it is soooooooo depressing to work hard to buy a plant and have it die because you don't know what it needs to grow happy or to wait with excitement for babies to come from a leaf and then have them die because you don't know what they need so thank you all for taking the time to post your kind, helpful advice :)

Sooooooooooo Warm Hugs :)

I'm pretty sure I saw it in the Cape Cod catalog, too.

Monticello, MN

Hi ,

Thank you , I found some on Amazon and I checked a couple of other sellers and they wanted more for the same amount so bought it at Amazon , Nicole sent me the Cape Cod Catalog but I would have to find the email with it and when I am sick I don't have the patience and I would think the price would be about the same ..............so again Thank you Bonnie for telling me about keikigrow and all of you for your two cents worth that is worth a lot more in friendship than many dollars could buy :)

Warm Hugs:)

That's funny, 'cause I was not wanting to go digging thru my emails for it either! I went and ordered some smaller permanest trays from IGS instead . . .

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

good luck to all of you, it's really fun to do, i am sure you will love it.

Yukako is gorgeous!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I still kick myself for not getting the one Gail had posted on the Marketplace last year . . .

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

Gail had Yukako Nichole?

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

She had one she had cut the crown off of. She had listed the crown on the Marketplace for, oh, I think it was $15-20 or so . . . but it was still early on in my addiction, and I wasn't sure what to do with a chimera.

Williston, ND
