Hay, no reason why she can't hunt AND post here. However, I too wish her the best of luck; I would feel pretty discouraged myself after losing my critters the way she did.

We just finished the last of a delicious chicken dish that I got from her, too, so I agree that we really need her here! I hope everything is going well with your new chickens, Jyl, and that life will settle down sooner rather than later!

Hugs!

Thats right she can do both!Don`t you know hay that women are great multi taskers.

I think it's a bad idea to go out in the woods with a bunch of enthusiastic people with big guns. Stay home Jyl.

Hmmm, having eaten venison for supper last night, I guess I'll stay out of this one!! lol!!

If I had been raised to hunt I probably still would now, but I can't even watch an animal be killed; once it's dead it's ok.....then it's food....I just can't watch it die. I have helped dress and butcher wild and domestic animals....no problem there. My father hunted but wouldn't teach us girls how to even handle a gun, let alone hunt (or fish) though he took my brothers. He was of the opinion that women shouldn't hunt or fish but should clean and cook whatever was brought home (enough said on that subject). He once grounded one of my brothers and me for a month because my brother let me shoot his BB gun. Two of my aunts used to go hunting in their younger days; they were married to brothers who were hunters (they hunted everything from quail to moose).

My DH has a deer stand in our own woods, so he's not going to run into enthusiastic people with big guns. We really enjoy deer meat.

Jyl, where would you even hunt in your area? Are there places that are safe?

Alfred Station, NY(Zone 5b)

Hey, if she wants to hunt, I say go for it! Mostly it's just nice to get out in the woods and sit quietly and if game happens to come by, that's a nice bonus. Just make sure you strap yourself in if you are using a tree stand, in case you end up so relaxed you take a nap! :) I used to hunt with my dad but haven't for quite a while.

Richmond, TX

Is falling asleep and out of tree stands a common hunting hazard? I thought the main threat was the other hunters.

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

I say let her do both! If I had something bigger than a .22 I'd attempt to go deer hunting this year. Deer jerky & summer sausage sounds really good. The neighborhood has 6 sets of twins this year.. and one set of triplets living here this year. :) The deer are sooo cute this year. i've got one i've nicknamed Bambi. He is so skittish. If someone really wanted too they could sit on my deck & shoot the deer as they walk across the yard.

Well I guess i'm just a numbskull, I know how capable women are, I guess I just focused to much on the word NEW hobby and I was afraid she was going to leave the forum. I don't want her to go away, she is a great lady and I want ya'll to encourage her to stay. Things are going to get better for her and she has been such a pal. I don't really worry to much about hunting, i was just using it to get her to stay here, and I wanted her to know we all love and support her.

Oh heck, we all know I could never kill anything anyway. I think my husband either needs me to be his bird dog or he's just tring to get me out of the house again. I don't think I could ever leave the forum. God knows what I've gone through to stay.

Alfred Station, NY(Zone 5b)

Porkpal, yes, I think it is far more likely that someone would fall out of a tree stand than be shot by another hunter. Hunting accidents (shootings) are played up a lot so they sound more common than they really are.

Southern NJ, United States(Zone 7a)

Well, I definitely vote for Jyl to stay. Here's wishing her good luck with whatever she's dealing with (and has "gone through") that's making her even consider switching from livestock raising to hunting! Our backyards are supposed to be places of inspiration and serenity, not hassles or battlegrounds!

Ferndale, WA

WOW!! Greenhouse you said it better than I ever could have. Thanks everyone for the support. What a great family of friends. Hay.

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

Thanks everyone, keep sending all thoes good thoughts, prayers and positive vibes my way tomorrow morning. I'll need them. Your support means everything to me.

I went out and did Tia Chi with the turkeys in the rain this morning and as bedragled as they were, they gave me a good pep talk. (Turkeys are always good at that!) The deer stood and watched, but all she was waiting for was the candy corn in my pocket. Maybe she overheard the "hunting" conversation!

Southern NJ, United States(Zone 7a)

Good thoughts, prayers, positive vibes AND white light winging your way, Jyl. Good luck tomorrow morning and afterwards, too! If you picture a positive outcome you can try to create your own reality. We can also try to do it for you!

Alfred Station, NY(Zone 5b)

Um, a little threadjack here... what is "white light"? I've seen people say this before online but I'm not sure what it's supposed to mean, aside from obvious good wishes.

Southern NJ, United States(Zone 7a)

Gallesfarm, as I understand it, and others may have their own interpretations, white light is a symbol of positive chi or energy. Wishing it for someone else means that you want to protect them from negative events or feelings. Some people view the individual in need of help as being enveloped in a white light which can heal or can offset danger and protect against poor outcomes. Bringing white light down upon yourself is also a way of meditating and/or achieving a more serene state of mind.

Not really a hijack at all!

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

OHHHH, that's just what I need, white light. Things have been delayed again. This is getting really old.

Southern NJ, United States(Zone 7a)

Omigosh, and here you were hoping that you'd get some closure, it looked like! When will things get going again?

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Haystack I love the woods. I go out to my BF's forty with him all the time. I love taking pictures out there, and it's interesting to see how things change over the seasons
But, look what my BF's daughter got 2 years ago.
He never takes a gun along anymore. She gets one every year for him. This one's head is mounted on the wall.
If she does better then this, we will be surprised............11 pointer
OH, she is 23 years old and a nursing student, and weights maybe 100 soaking wet!
