Yacon crowns for trade

Greensburg, PA

Harvesting my yacon today and found that I will have a few small, extra crowns. Rather than store and offer in the spring, I'd rather trade a few away and same myself some work. Please see the info below before requesting.

I am willing to trade for things I don't have. Looking for unusual edibles hardy in zone 5, named dahlia tubers, named oxalis, EE's, amorphs, named hen & chicks (sempervivum, jovibarba and close relatives)

Yacon storage and propagation: Frost tender perennial. If you live in a climate that does not freeze or frost, then you will be able to plant and grow immediately. Otherwise, crown will need to be stored and propagated for the spring. Best way to store is heel in a pot that is stored above freezing, cool and out of the light. Direct contact of the pot with a garage or unheated basement floor helps maintain the proper level of moisture for good storage. Protection from pests may be necessary. (Crowns can be started anytime and plants kept root bound in small pots until ready to set out in the spring, but it is usually easier just to store for the spring) In March/April move pot to warm location, removing some of the soil to expose the top of the crown and give light. Mist occasionally, but do not water until you see growth. Crown will produce multiple plants. Once each plant has two leaves, separate the plant from the tubers/crown using a sharp knife, being sure to try to keep a small portion of the crown with the plant (not always necessary but gives better results). Divided plants may produce additional plants from eyes on the crown piece and be further divided. I grew over 20 plants from a single crown this spring. Grow plants indoors to size up a bit before planting outside after all danger of frost is gone. Loose soil is very helpful for promoting large harvests. Full sun is also important. You will need to judge the timing of when you start the plants based on your climate - allow minimum of two months to get multiple plants going.

Post your interest here and d-mail me trade suggestions. If I cannot work out some trades, I will offer crowns for postage in order you post to this thread. Will likely need to use flat rate boxes to ship crowns, so postage would be $5 - $10 range depending on what fits which box size. If you were interested this spring but too far down the list, please let me know in your d-mail- I am saving a few crowns for those that went without this spring.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

I would be interested in trying some. Check my tradelist and see if anything interests you. If you are looking for a particular EE or other tropical plant or vine, ask me as I don't post some things on my tradelist.

Mullins, SC(Zone 8a)

Interested, sending dmail.

I have some "lime Zinger" EE's (well, technically different than EE) and an unnamed dark green runner ( I purchased it as a black runner but it's not black. It does however multiply rapidly and is quite nice. Just about 2' tall).
I can spare one ramps bulb - they don't multiply fast for me as I'm a bit out of their growing range, but this is nice and healthy! I have two small French Sorrel.
I don't think I currently have any other edibles that would be hardy perennials for you in zone 5...

I do not have a trade list up, I have not been trading much lately, but I do have some old positive feedback from trades a few years ago!
