Its getting cold here so two of the golden comets never grew back there back feathers and some of the wing feathers so I put the saddles on them so they could keep warm outside. She likes hers.
Its saddles time again
Does anyone know why her wing feathers look like this? She has no feathers on her back from last fall when the rooster tore them all out.Its like they only have that bone thing with no feathers attached to it(I know its not a bone thing just don`t the name of it)I put neosporine on the wings were they are red looking.

Poor things, it's hard being half naked in the cold weather.
We have a few hens who have featherless backs but there are feather buds growing, so by the time it gets really cool here they should be fine.
Not sure why her wings look like they do. She probably lost some of those from the roo too and needs to grow new ones.
Could the odd looking feathers still be blood feathers? - growing back from the earlier damage. If so they will look normal when they finish developing.
I hope thats what it is.What are blood feathers?
Blood feathers are immature feathers that still are "alive" and filled with circulating blood. They must never be cut as the bird will bleed severely. Once the feathers finish developing, they are essentially dead like our hair.
Thanks, got there saddles on just in time its snowing this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
