I received three Blue Splash Marans yesterday. One rooster and two hens. How do they look? Paul

I'm no expert, but they look beautiful to me. (I have 3 Wyandotte pullets.) How old are they? Their colors are very pretty.

Thanks, The rooster was hatched in March and the Hens in May Paul

The splashes are fine, the rooster is a birchen Marans. are they from the Bev Davis line? I hatched out eggs from her line and ended up with a Birchen Rooster also. A splash roo will have same look as your pullets. You can use the Birchen on the splash. You will end up with mostly Blue Birchen.

If you are talking to me, Porkpal, thankyou. Phicks birds are nice also and since she is from the state where mine originated and she ended up with a Birchen in the mix also I suspect hers are from the same line as mine. Birchen are kinda hard to come by, so I'm keeping my accidental Birchen. I culled all but the best two roos out of that hatch. I imagine her pullets will lay some very nice dark eggs also.

You might as well get used to it, Paul... unless you make a habit of signing your name, default position is hen around here. =0)

I am really sorry to have made a gender mistake. Didn't mean to call you a she. Mine do all have heavy feathers on their legs and down outside toes. I have two different lines of birds. My others came from Pat and Dennis Pisapia in Texas. All shipped eggs . The eggs were pretty dark. They started laying Sept. 08 and layed non-stop all winter until just lately they slowed down due to their first molt. Those really aren't feather-legged. These other ones started laying in Sept. 09 and already I'm not getting squat for eggs out of them. I also have about 30 blue mottled and black mottled cochin bantams which I dearly love. They are the tamest, sweetest little birds. Again, sorry for calling you a she. Karen in Puyallup, Wa.
