Healthy Lifestyle Support Thread Oct. 17th - 24th, 2009

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

I didn't even go to the cafe' last night. My hip was threatening to give out with nearly every step I took so I just sat in the recliner most of the evening. I did get a heavy top patched. I just glued some black felt over the small cut in the back of it. I do hope it takes the washing. If not I'll have to find another piece of different kind of cloth to glue onto it. I couldn't remember if felt washes well or not.

Holly's truck has a bad water pump so they have it in front of the garage. She has taken off at least some of the bad parts. Kyle hopes to get the new pump on this weekend. They bought it last week so it is on hand. Not like they have to order one and pray it comes in. Her ability to do at least some mechanical work is a big help to him with his time crunch and back problems. He got 2 new burning barrels for me. For that I am very thankful.

It is chilly here this morning too, Susan. About like what you are experiencing. The weather people say our temps are about a month early. Suppose  to warm up to the low 60s this weekend & stay warm for a few days. Still cold at night tho.

The number on the scale keeps getting larger so I'm going to check out what I heard on a TV ad last night. It said that one of the side effects of Lyrica is weight gain. Not that I am going to hold it totally responsible for what is happening to me. But since I don't do the Gazelle or rebounder at all anymore because of my hip and am probably eating more than I should be it makes sense. I also read on the Fibromyalgia page that weight gain is a common problem with that condition because it slows the metablism. It recommended  taking HTP-5 & CLA supplements to boost the metabolism. At least I think that is where I read about those 2. I am taking kelp to up the thyroid hormone output. I know there are other thinks I need to do too.

I had a ww hamburger bun top only with a slice of Swiss type cheese for breakfast. I know that isn't enough protein so I'll do something about that in a bit. I am trying to eat several small meals/snacks a day and keep protein in each of them.

I need to go to town before long to get some whole corn and go see that slicer to see if it is what I need. If it isn't the right one there is no point in buying it. The banks open at 9 & I want to be able to pay in cash so I want to get in early and get back home. I think I am mostly going in to see the slicer to be honest. I could do the corn after work on Monday. If I think about it long enough I may convince myself that I need to do that and save the fuel. I can do without the corn for another couple days. I'm sure those are the only 2 things I am going in for.

Sue, you will have to learn to be more consistant and firm with the children. I know it is hard to be a single parent which is what someone compared you to. I have lived thru that. It would be nice if your absentee DH would at least tell the children over the phone or in an email that they have to eat more healthy foods and stop being so picky and frequently back you up. Do you have one of those setups on your computer that allows you to talk to & see each other on the monitor? I've heard of the military and some traveling business people having that. I am thankful he is probably getting another job over there since that is where he seems to want to be and where the work is. If there is no work he can possibly do here in the states how is he going to start a business of his own when he finally comes back? You will need to save up not only the money to buy the dozers, etc. but also enough to live on for at least a year. At least that is how I would look at it. I probably don't know enough about the situation to form a good opinion.

Vic, you are right, there is no place like home. I'm glad you are finally back there and starting to do the regular daily things. I'm sure you weren't able to do any of your exercising at all while gone so you can possibly get back to at least walking the mountain with the dogs everyday. Not sure if you have time for the other exercising with all the house work you and  Hank are doing. That has been quite an undertaking for the 2 of you.

Puppies here yet, Debbie? I'm eager to hear of their arrival and how many she has. I love puppies but no longer feel I have the time or patience to do what needs to be done to housebreak on, etc.

I need to get a move on & try to get some work done today. BBL. GOD bless and keep each of you.
