My big oops. Debbie dont be mad.

Well it started like this. I agreed to overwinter this Plumeria for a gardening buddy who doesnt have a GH yet and I dont have the heart to tell her in person i made a big boo boo. It seems that on the ride home the heavy pot slid forward and lopped off a whole arm. Yes it can be rooted but it was still blooming. I had suggested making a cutting or 2 and she assured me no I want to wait. The varigated ginger is safe... so far... Brandy

Don't feel bad, a friend has these planted below Florida Royal Palm trees that are 40 ft tall. The lowest frond (10 ft long) turns yellow and then falls, taking another branch each time.
It's a tall stick now, but ugly!

Brandy, I finally joined DG and looking at that picture sure made me laugh. It's funnier now than when I saw it in person and all I could do was a big gulp and smile. I'm curious to see how that plant is going to replace the broken branch and if it will eventually look symetrical again. I still love ya. Plants like bones, repair themselves. No harm done. Now I have to root this cutting, which is what you were trying to convince me to do. Too bad you already have one from me. I'll have to sell or trade it. Thanks for overwintering my plants.

Deb

From my experience with plumeria, the branch will not regenerate since it was lopped off too close to the joint. When taking cuttings (if you were doing it on purpose..) it's best to leave about 2-4 inches from the V - a new branch will then usually grow from the old leaf scars. Since this stub doesn't appear to have any leaf scars I don't think you'll see a new branch there.

I too have a plumeria under a Royal Palm and it gets pruned from time to time by the falling fronds...

Well Brandy. The branch won't grow back. So, I guess we'll be taking several cuttings after all. I'll get with you later in the season.

Once again OOPS! See What had happened Was..... LOL I told you you had to start rooting stuff just never thought I was gonna cause it by force. LOL Ill do worse before the seasons over. LOL

Oh well. So now you know you'll have to help me. I'm supposed to be downsizing but instead I'm steadily increasing plants. I bought a striped corn plant for $5 from Wal-Mart, as well as 2 hanging baskets for the same price. Picture trying to blend those in with my other plants. Let's not forget my new guinea impatiens and the palm from you. I'm also rooting plants, such as the brugmansias from you. You're not helping me. LOL. I don't know where I'm going to put the plants. I need to make and sell some jewelry to help pay for a greenhouse.

Debbie put some of the Jewlry on market place. Lots of people are looking for nice gifts for next month. You better get busy!!! Dont forgrt my anklet. LOL

I'll see what I can do. It's hard finding time to do both gardening and jewelry making. I'll be working on your anklet. Thanks for the push.

PUSH!!!! LOL I want diamonds and rubbies and Saphires and any thing else I cant afford like rocks and sand. LOL

Oh, you're soooo funny. LOL. Guess what! The other plumeria that I brought into the garage to overwinter is now about to bloom. I'm going to leave it just inside the garage door where it should get sufficient sunlight (provided I remember to open that door during the day). That thing's too big and heavy to move in and out. Besides, if I take it out, the winds just going to knock it down like it's done all year long. That's why I'm cutting it down in the spring. I need a shorter more managable plant. So now, tell me, how's my other baby, you know the one with the broken arm? Any sign of flower buds? LOL.

I thought the other side looked sad so I loped it off. Just kidding. No buds but boy the goodies Im rooting in the bottom of its pot are happy. Ive been seriously spring cleaning. LOTS of goodies goin on as usual. Ive even started some seeds. Man Ive got it bad. Its too soon. LOL

Hey, I've been reading so much about winter sowing that I'm going to give it a try this year. I think you should too. It'll keep your seedlings out of the greenhouse so you'll have that much more space to fill it up with other things. LOL. Also, I'm going to try starting seeds in baggies. I hope that I don't create a moster machine that I can't keep up. Speaking of seeds, how are your pride of barbadoes? That nice guy somehow send me some twice. Maybe I gave him the sob story about being a newbie. LOL. Anyway, I'm sending for some of his dwarf pomegrante seeds. Want some?

Orangeburg, SC

Sure. The pride of Barbados Germinate super easy! Did you find anymore of that Pink Dbl. coneflower? I WANT IT> LOL

There was only one head, and it's dried off. I need to go out in the morning and save it before the birds start feasting on it. I'll save you some seeds. Thanks for the surprise lily bulbs and the mums, eggplant, and whatever other goodie I got from you. Remember the word wintersow! I plan to use lasagna or roast foil pans with lids. I just don't know where I can put them without getting caught. LOL.
