I have a Xanthosoma sagittifolium (Lime Zinger), growing in ground in my zone 8A shade garden. It's 3 years old and I've dug it out of the ground and potted it up to overwinter indoors the past 2 winters. PF says it's hardy to zone 8, but I assume that's "root" hardy.
Question: Anyone have this xanthosoma in ground in zone 8 and if so, has it survived a winter, and how long did it take to come back?.
This one's gotten pretty large.
Many thanks for any advice!

Xanthosoma sagittifolium hardiness
Deb. I am a zone 8 a. Lime Zinger will come back but has a hard time if the winter is particularly cold and wet. Mine were growing huge and in the same place every year but last year I almost lost them. They must have good drainage and good mulch. It should be up and growing well by June and with good feeding and watering it will get huge again. In the summer mine get huge. Love them and they are one of my favorite ee. Hope it helps. (I always keep one in a pot in the greenhouse -just in case.)

Thanks, Barbara. That's kind of the main concern, after will it survive - is would it get big again. It put out a little pup , so I think I'll dig the baby and bring it in, and leave the big mama in the ground. Someone else suggested compost as well as mulch, to create warmth.
Thanks so much for the advice!
Deb
Just a suggestion, layers of compost/mulch as mentioned, then a plastic sheet, and mulch on top again. That would prevent cold water from seeping through to the plant.
