This is the gold pencil laced hamburg that was given to me at the chicken swap a couple weeks ago,he just started calming down a little long enough to get a better picture of him,I like his white cheeks. The girls stiil chase him so my dh made him roosts hight up so he can get around the coop.I put a pan on one to feed him and when the girls go out in the mornig he comes down to drink,he stays fluffed up most of the time, can anyone tell me how well they handle cold weather?
Meet Henrey the Hambourg
Beautiful bird: Excellent flyer, and forager. One of the better birds for cold hardiness, which is interesting as they are a small built bird. The are not happy in confinement. Very similiar in many ways to the Lakenvelder. They do settle down fairly well after a couple years. Lay a medium size egg. They are wonderful to have in a flock as they really tend to stand out from the rest. Haystack
Poor guy, he'll get used to the girls eventually, it just takes time. Do you know how old he is?
I think he is young because the lady that gave him to me said he will not get much bigger.
ah, yes, then he probably is between 6 months and a year. He may get more confidence as he gets older. When we got our first roo he was young and had no idea how to handle all the women. They were well established and he was not used to a lot of chickens though he was about the same age. It took him a while, but he became more confident and an excellent roo. The women didn't peck him anymore, well, all except for one barred rock that is queen of the coop.
Well its been about a month since he relized he was a rooster!!!!!!!!He chases the girls around and does his rooster thing. He has favorites and will not leave them alone so they stay up on the roosts most of the time.Henrey even goes outside now with some of the girls, does not stay long as it is very cold here.He is a handsome rooster, hope he stays friendly to me or he will have to find a new home. Can`t believe I felt sorry for him when he had to stay on his roost most of the time, wish he would stay up there some and give the poor girls a break! He must be exhausted by bedtime!!

Hi Green: Well age will eventually slow him down, with some it just doesn't seem to come fast enough HUH. Even the hens of that breed seem to be quite listless and flighty. Good luck in taming the gent. Hay.
Beautiful, love his coloring!
Hey Green he's got that look in his eye. He's saying: "Do you know who I am"??? OH YEAH,,,He is the man.
Yeah, and he didn't have at all the same confident, egotistical attitude in the first photo!
Oh believe me he thinks he`s hot stuff
