Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Im in 5 and well...these things just came up 2 weeks ago and now I have snow in my forecast!

I moved them indoors. Will they bloom?

The flowers usually show first then the leaves. Did you just plant them this year?

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

I got the bulbs in the spring.. planted them and they just sproted their "grass" two weeks ago!

I brought them in the house and they are under grow lights now....

Do you have any pics of the flowers?

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Here is what mine looks like. My guess is you will just get leaves this year but next year they will flower. Mine took a year or so to settle in although I do have mne in the ground.

Yep, thats them! I imagine mine are a bit off schedule vs those raised in the correct zone?

I wonder what month they might flower in!

I almost tossed them and three weeks ago I actually did dump a pot only to discover the bulbs were starting to grow!

Thanks for showing!

I assume the leaves will croak before the flowers come eh?

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Yes they are storing up energy with those leaves. I have some that did not bloom but sent up leaves. I am guessing those were not settled yet.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the info!

Well, it will be a wonder to see what they do in the house and if and when they actually do bloom!

I will post back when it happens!

Summer was HOT!!! Today we have such a wonderful WONDERFUL cool day. . only got to 75 today!!! ((although it was a bit chilly this morning during my sons baseball game...wasnt' even 70* and the breeze just cut thru us)).

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

It was a pleasant fall day here.. 54.. sun could have made a better appearance... I almost thought indian Summer arrived!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well here it is January. My lycoris are in my livingroom and are still in the "grass" stage.

I wonder when they will bloom.

Right now I have snow outside, so they are not going outdoors anytime soon.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Blossom they put up flowers and then leaf out so I suspect they will not bloom this yaer. I believe most are fall blooming, by early summer the leave should die back and in the fall you should see a bloom stalk.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well looking at them today, I see some of the leaves starting to die back, very minimal though. I wonder, should I cease the water. I cannot put them outdoors yet, as its waay to cold. Im in the midwest and these are definitely not meant for my zone! I suspect they will bloom mid summer if at all hoping I have altered their state of bloom brain!

I just watered them.. so should this maybe be the last time? Let them go? I hope so so I can move them off the growlight stand! I need the room, but if not.. no problema!

Any clue, let me know! Thanks

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I have never tried to grow them inside. But you can sure try it.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well so far so good.. if you like the grass stage! LOL! Heck Im jjust trying to get them to bloom this summer.

I have the reserection lilies.. those do good outside in my zone, but these bred spiders.. its the first time with them and so Im taking the challenge to get them to bloom! I have them in nursery cans.

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

BLOSSOMBUDDY, the reds survived our freeze/frost stage down here... they are still standing! But when should I expect to see blooms?~!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Hi you will not see blooms until the bulbs have gone dormant. They send up bloom stalks and then the leaves.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi DIRTYGIRL71 - um, your frost is minimal compared to my winters! LOL! Hnag in there though! YOu might get bloom before I do! Im movingmine out from under the lights now to let them go dormant and maybe in a few weeks I will toss them outside after some of the danger of the deep freeze is over. I still want them to chill out a bite I would think to set them to bloom? Dont know how this out of zone thing will do for me! Its a test!

Hey, I got yer baby sunroses in the house and they are doing swell! Do you have any other colors of those? Im looking for yellow and varagateds.. D-mail me ok!

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

we're still droping to around mid 50's at night... ((COLD COLD COLD))

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

BIRTYGIRL71, we got snow.. but right now I have forced forsythia branches blooming in my livingroom!, My potted impatiens are bloomin, as is a snap, a sunrose anda white dianthus!

I had to kick 2 of my large pepper plants outdoors.. they seemed to have sprung a sneaky ant attack! Run! They are everywhere!

I wish we had 50!

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

My red spiders finally bloomed!!!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Good! And yes, they get no leaves. Well not untill their next growth.. they are just like the reserection lilies!

I have to ask.. just how do you garden with those purdee nails!! LOL! You do not want to see my hands... and my necked feet, and knees and nose are covered in dirt. Im like a hog in pig heaven in a garden. Your handle is ALLL WRONG! LOL! That is not your hand.

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

**LOL** my DG name came from my nailtech a few years back...everytime I'd go get my nails done, they'd have to dig a good portion of my garden from under my nails (both hands and feet) and say "eww...you so dirty girl" *LOL* I do take alot more care of my nails in the garden these days...by scraping them over a bar of soap to keep dirt from building up underneath...and I also wear rubber gloves and garden gloves.

Utica, NY(Zone 4b)

Is that the name of the flower? red spider? it is soooo pretty!

Red Spider Lilies

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

its botanical is lycoris

I may have some to send you DG but right now I am not sure.. Will know when I go to dump their pots.. they did not bloom for me.. but I am wondering if they are later than the reserection lilies...we are in a different zone too. They do not perform in my zone.

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

You know me, I'll adopt anything ~LOL~

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Careful what you wish for! Not sure when I will send, but your on the list!

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

thank you! and let me know if there's anything I have you'd like me to send and when..

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, you sent me some stuff a short while ago,let me catchup!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Ok, well, I am no longer donig the red spiders.. they just dont like my zone and when I bring them indoors for winter, all I gget to enjoy is their grass, so they are all gone now.

Im still working to catch up on other stuff.

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

I have red spider bulbs everywhere ~LOL~ and I can't wait to see them pop up next year...along with some UNKNOWN bulbs *LOL* should be fun!!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Im glad you can enjoy them! I was sad to find they would not do in my zone.

I have a couple reserection lilies which are similiar, but they dont seem to multiply much foir me. They are more sone hardy, but I thnnk my water table has much to do on them.

Now, daffodils I can grow like crazy. Those are always on the "gimme" list!
