5 types of woodpeckers

Hot Springs Village, AR(Zone 7b)

The woodpeckers around here all seem to love cashews. Clockwise from top-left are: Northern Flicker, Downy, Redheaded, Red-Bellied, and in the center: Pileated.

Great pic's. My favorite is the pileated, I hear him in the woods behind me more than I see him LOL. I get the downy and red headed at my suet feeder.

Great collage nford! I used to buy a nut mix for birds that had a lot of cashews and I could tell how much they enjoyed it.

Livingston, TX(Zone 8b)

They do love the cashews, they will hunt through the mixes to get what they want. I love your collage. We don't see the Northern flicker down here. It is hard for me to choose between the Pileated and Red headed woodpecker. They are all so great to watch.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

What a wonderful collage of beautiful woodpeckers!! I'm not choosing a favorite as they're all so spectacular. Great job on all of them!

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

What a great collage! WP's are favorites of mine

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Great collage....I hope I can afford nuts for them this winter! I get all of them (plus the Hairy) except the Red-headed. They are here just not coming to my house...Yet! :)

South Hamilton, MA

since a dead birch tree fell over, we don't get a chance to see the piliated any more. I think that they are in the woods, but the birch was probably at one end of its territory.

I should have mentioned that we do not just buy little bags of cashews in the grocery store. Our local Wildbird Center carries 25-pound bags (not for human consumption) for about $50. These bags last quite a while since the nut feeders only allow a bird to get out one nut at a time.
