Konjac corm REALLY grew this year!

Poughkeepsie, NY(Zone 6a)

Well this is my first year with Amorphs. I planted a 4 pound Konjac this spring. It was 7 inches across. When I dug it out a few days ago I could NOT believe the size of this thing!

The corm on the right is how big it was this spring. WOW! It's now 13 pounds and almost 12" across!!!

Obviously it likes what you're doing. But it looks like you've cut off the stems. These are usually best left until they come away themselves.

I cut most of it off but left a little on to make them more managable to bring inside. We got down to freezing a few nights ago here.

Portage, WI(Zone 5a)

Excuse some beginner questions. Will you keep it dormant inside for the winter? Any special conditions?

Poughkeepsie, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes it will remain dormant on a shelf until spring. They start growing even before planting in the spring.

The mice don't nibble on them?
We have mice.

Poughkeepsie, NY(Zone 6a)

Not sure about the mice. Trap those little #%$%s!

I know, I have poison bait out, just got back from getting eggs, Chickens were chasing a mouse down there.
Maybe I need to put them (chickens) under the house ^_^
But back to bulbs, I hear lots of people put them in a paper bag, on a shelf in basement.
I usually just leave mine in pots and not water.

I still have to dig mine up. But there has just been some little frost in the morning here. Nothing to worry about.

Charleen, you also here.
I have been here for a while but I don't believe I joined so much with talking here. Sorry. Very busy following al these fora's.
But I am into aroids as well as you see! haha.

Seems we both like the the same plants, Jori.
That is wonderful.
Do you set the bulbs up on a shelf? My new ones are here in house in
pots, The one I have are still in the ground.
I need to go take a picture of the one that still has a leaf outside.
They can be tough.

Mine(Konjacs) took the cold here just fine. We had a frost and a freeze warning here and all my konjacs are still standing. There was frost on the cars but the ground wasn't crunchy.I keep all my others in my greenhouse, I left one of my paeoniifolius out and it didn't like it as much, it got frost bite and burnt it up pretty good but still standing. I store my big guys on the shelf as they will not fit in a bag and some in boxes and some smaller ones in paper bags. The dirt works too I just don't like the Idea of not being able to see them. On some amorphs they can develop a little rot. Not konjacs really, but other harder ones that store dry so if there on the shelf you can watch them and doctor them if you need to through the winter!

I like looking at the corms too, amazing! I can't get over the increase in size! The one or 2 I bought from Growin_stinkies this spring were nickel sized, now they are tennis ball size! Got to love it!

I just popped over to Australian link, Colleen has a beautiful bloom of her "Stinkie"
Purple and black, it was gorgeous. I like to see them all.
Can't wait for one of mine to grow to such large size. You all do great.
