I was driving home from Juno, TX, today on FM 938 between Gatesville & McGregor and there were at least 30 Hawks in a field. It was raining and some were on low fence posts and some were on the ground. Could they be migrating Swainson's Hawks? I was with a non-birder and I could not get him to turn around so I could get a better look and a photo.
CLOSED: Hawk help, no photo
Most likely a Kettle of Swainson's taking a break from migration to South America.
Thanks, Burd!
Could be Swainson's, or other migrating hawks, or a mix of different species. Many Red-taileds also migrate, and some Ferruginous too. Also probably not completely out of range for Broad-winged. Best not ticked off as anything.
Should've said you thought you saw a 20 dollar bill lying in the grass at the roadside . . . ;-)
