Could someone tell how they propagate other gessies? I am experimenting with plants like sinn, kohleria, smithiantha, episcia, columnea etc by pulling off leaves and planting to see what parts of the plants will root. I am told that episcia will only root by stolens so I haven't tried do a leaf on that. Also, I am told that chimeras will not bloom true from a leaf or they won't root from a leaf? I would appreciate any tips/tricks you may have.
OH, it is going to 94 here today with a heat index of 104. Goody.

RE: Propagation
You can cut any piece off an episcia (main stem, lateral stem, stolon)......and it will root
Chimeras, to stay true, you need a sucker or a crown to root.............
Make it easy on yourself and take cuttings...........not leaves......from the above mentioned and you will have another plant so quickly. All you need is a one or two node cutting.
Sinningias are another story..........let someone who knows tell you the difference between indeterminate and determinate sinningias.
Morning!
Episcia can be grown by a leaf to.It takes a little longer but will put up a plant.Sometimes they revert back to the parent plants. But if your like me I like to try different ways to root things.
kohleria are the same way,you can take a cutting or a leaf will also put out a rhizome.Or you can take your rhizome and break off some of the scales on it and sprinkle them on top of your soil and mix them in a little. When they start growing, take the bottom 2 leaves off and bury them deeper in your soil.I found they need to be close to your lights to get a good strong stem.
opps forgot, smithiantha can be grown by a leaf also.I just gave a friend a small plant of one that I grew from a leaf.
Have fun experimenting! Jan

Hi Jan!!!
Glad you came along..........good ideas you have offered.........I have never tried breaking off scales of a rhizome.
Hi Gail! You know me,always trying new things! LOL.
Thanks so much! I went to an AV show and picked up some different things and the lady was telling me "this one roots this way, this one roots this other way" and I was completely confused when I got home!
I never would have thought about scraping the scales either. Great idea! Thank you both.
