Look at what is about to flower................
Congrats on the bloom, very exciting!
Most Neos are natives of Brazil - as long as it's humid heat is not a problem.
As for identification, www.fcbs.org photo index alone has 3854 entries - and I know there are many more. While there are some distinctive hybrids, most of the time, in my humble opinion, an accurate identification is usually impossible.

Hi Guys,
I have moved and been babysitting my beautiful Bromelaid until it flowered!
My dog has just ripped it up and I am so angry!
Can I save any if they do not have roots on them?
I found a couple of pieces with roots, just hoping that they will grow.
Does anybody have a pup from a Fingernail Tip Brom, I will swap if I have something you need?
Thanks anyway,
Debi
That is TERRIBLE! So sorry to hear that!
As long as the bottom of the pups are woody they will root. Perhaps you need some Hechtias or Puyas to interplant with the others. They can teach a dog (or anyone else) not to mess with them.
I've done some plant swapping with Australians and New Zealanders mostly at Conferences here in the states. I know from talking with them that importing Bromeliads (or probably any other tropical) into Australia is difficult to do legally. The agricultural officials of countries like Australia with tropical zones are justifiably concerned with accidental importation of plant pests. Look what happened in Florida with importation of the Mexican Bromeliad (Evil) Weevil.
There are a great number of Bromeliad Society members in Australia and I wouldn't be surprised if one day it had as many members as we do here in the states. I'll bet you can find some local people there who can supply you with plants. After all, your growing conditions are far better than ours (especially in Queensland). Take a look at http://bsi.org/affiliates/bylocation.html .
Good luck,
Dave
