My Birds Are Back

I'm doing the happy dance, all my birds came back today, cardinals, blue jays, gold finch,chickadee, titmouse, downy & redheaded woodpeckers. I'm thinking its because the snakes are gone. We had a terrible year with snakes. I've been
afraid to go out in the yard this summer, the snakes were every where. What do you all think of my theory? Is it a crazy thought?

Hi Christine, I don't have snakes at all but until just recently I wasn't having any birds in the yard. There has been a lot of natural food around. Now they are beginning to come back.

I'm sure not having snakes doesn't hurt though. ^_^

I would assume if you had a high snake population in your yard it may not have helped as far as the birds go. I have never seen a snake( yet) in my yard. But have seen brown snakes & copperheads on other properties nearby.

Snakes go torpid in cold temps. They don't necessarily go after the birds, but they invade the nests and eat the eggs and hatchlings. So I think it was a factor. Good luck finding their dens. Maybe you can get someone to remove them?

Now that the cold weather is upon us, we may get our first freeze tonight so I wont be worried about snakes for awhile. It would be impossible to locate any dens, I'm surrounded by woods. How many times I've said I was less afraid when the bear was in the yard and I yell at him to GO AWAY !!!!! at least he listened and went back into the woods, the darn snakes dont listen LOL
