Just watched a show last night (recorded) about all the many many types of maples and these were mentioned. My interest was especially piqued since they didn't show any in bloom. DG is incredible and apparently mindreading (wink) as on my daily visit to PlantFiles Pictures forum - here it is. Who would have thought the maple family harbored something so lovely? Now added to my personal "want list!" Thanks for posting the photos!

Sharon,
Flowering maple is only the common name for abutilons. These are not actual maples. The leaves are sometimes shaped like maple tree leaves, hence the common name. In Victorian times these are kept in parlors of the big beautiful wooden houses.

Okay, thanks. That means I'm still on my quest for a sight of the flowering maples that were on that show. The program was about a place (botanical garden?) that grew all types of maples. Thanks again for setting me straight :)

Sharon, I never thought about blooms on maple trees. The leaf color can be lovely. I did a google search. A nice surprise.
