I got DS70!!!

North Augusta, ON

Christine was out this way so her and I and her Mom went nursery hopping today. Found this beautiful DS70, which they had labeled mistakenly as Bilobata. Christine recognized it instantly for what it was. It's in a 6 inch pot and must weigh close to 15 pounds!!
They had H, Kerrii too. They wanted $75 dollars for it...ouch...we left it there but it was a huge, beautiful basket of it. Of course we talked them out of cuttings. It's been weighing on my mind a lot...might just have to go back and grab one.
Here's the DS70...lousy pic but I've got it segregated in the bathroom awaiting a spray of Neem, came with a few white flies.

She was kind enough to bring me cuttings of H. diversifolia, kenejiana and inconspicua. I am sooo spoiled!

Christine is such a lovely lady with a great sense of humour...so proud to be able to call her a good friend!

Wow, such a large plant. Just gorgeous. My favorite past time, nursery hopping. Glad you had fun and were fruitful.

Great find on that DS-70 ... a nice specimen, you will love it! DS-70 is one of the first Hoyas I ever found for sale around here, an EA plant sold at Home Depot or Wal-Mart. It's one of my favorites because it blooms all the time. At first I thought the scent was awful but it has grown on me! Of course my plant stays outside almost year round so it's isn't as overpowering out there as when it's in the house.

How sweet of Christine to share cuttings with you ... a good friend indeed!

!!&#*% $75.00 for one plant?!&@ That is a lot of money for one plant! I love Hoya kerrii but can't imagine spending that much money for just one plant.

Gee, Carol, what DO they say about us Canadians? Christine is a lovely lady...The Canadian Queen of Hoya I recall calling her once. ^_^

Nice find with that DS70, Lee Anne.

I've heard of Island hopping ... nursery hopping sounds good too ... how about island nursery hopping? I think it would be a kick getting a bunch of DG'ers of the same mindset (Hoyas) together in one location to tour nurseries. Perfect Vacation!

Only two of them here in the whole state!!! (that I know of)...Oh right...4 ...counting me and Ted.

Ooohhh, that sound's like it would be so much fun.

Hey LeeAnn, look that plant over carefully - I found about a half dozen spent blooms in my back seat from DS 70!

We were able to sweet talk a nice young fellow into taking two large cuttings from one of the enormous ($75) H. kerrii variegata; I even offered to pay, which was nicely declined. Now to try and root them, this time of year isn't wonderful. If they do root, one is yours LeeAnn. I just plain and simply won't pay that kind of cash for a plant; patience thy name is hoya addict....lol

So, Carol, what is it they say about Canadians?

8-)

HAHA...well, it was funny (to me) when I wrote it, but now I can't remember what it was! Honest!

Good eye Christine!! i checked that Hoya and found multiple buds! Let's hope the Neem treatment doesn't make them blast...

If it does, they'll just grow again. It's far more important to get rid of the bugglies.
