Round Up Plant ID's

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

There are a few plants left at my house that have no ID on them. I feel kinda foolish, but I don't know what the heck they are. Here is a group pix of 7 NOID's. Tomorrow, I will take more pictures and post them tomorrow night. Thanks everyone!!!

I think 3, 5, 6 and 7 came from me. They are probably Golden Chain Tree (Koelrutaria paniculata) and Japanese Snowbell (Styrax japonica). I may also have included a Rhus aromatica (Fragrant Sumac).

I need to see them closer but I think:

3 - Rhus
5, 6 - Koelrutaria
7 - Styrax

14 Centaurea montana

NOID 17 Looks like feverfew to me. if it is it is a wonderfull self seeding perenial good as an herb and great as a cut flower

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

Thank you Katie, Steve, and Linda for the ID's. I am really glad to ID them, and they are plants that I want!

I still need ID's for: #4, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Lynn - 10's the Kerria. Shade shrub that does well here once it's established.

12 - small maple?

13 - variegated elderberry?

15 - digitalis?

16 - mint family?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

#11 looks like an Ampelopsis from Pixy, originally from me, (I gave her extras last year.) It's a lovely vine, the berries are very cool and bees love it.

I'd agree #16 looks minty-wasn't someone bringing lemon balm ( Melissa officianalis)? I'd play it safe and leave that one potted until you're sure what it is...

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

The problem with lemon balm is that it self sows, so keeping it in a pot might not solve all your problems. OTH, the seedlings aren't hard to pull out and it has tons of uses, isn't subject to pests, etc.

13 looks suspiciously like variegated elderberry
15, yes digitalis, but maybe a cool variety, who knows?

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

17 - tanacetum (feverfew)

It's an herb that will readily reseed and spread, but they're easy to pull up. They make a nice filler in a flower bed in August, when everything is looking dry. A relative of chrysanthemum, so they have a nice smell. Some use the plant (probably dried) to keep fleas and moths away.

I like to move the seedlings to pots to keep them full as summer progresses.

Thanks everyone. That only leaves #4 and #11 to ID. Yippee!!!

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Lynn, I ID'd # 11 in my post above.

Good luck with #4!

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

I don't think you posted a picture of #4.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Four looks like a tree, maple or birch, maybe?

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

where is 4?

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

In the first post - no closeup.

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

Oh gosh, Suzybell, I feel like an idiot. I read your post, looked at the link, then forgot to write it down on my list. I even planned out a place to plant it.

I don't know how I missed 4's close up. oH WELL. I am going to assume it is a tree and plant it.

Is it too late in the year to plant now, or wait a couple of days when it is not so cold?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Lynn, oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel like an idiot! I was just feeling too lazy to write it down again....

Should still be fine to plant stuff, the soil should still be fairly warm, and the cold won't last too long. They're more exposed in the pots above ground anyhow

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

It's safe to plant anytime the ground isn't frozen.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

The sooner you can get them in the ground, the faster they will be able to root in, and this will ensure a healthier plant as there is less stress. Even if you can site them, get the holes dug & watered well (rain won't be enough), and plant 1 per day, you'll do well. October is typically a wonderful month to plant trees & shrubs. But as Willow indicated, as long as the ground is not frozen...
