Has anyone had experience purchasing Caladiums from NeoFarm in Thailand? They do not appear to be on the Watchdog list.
NeoFarm Caladiums
Hi, did you ever order from this firm? I am interested in your experience if you did.
Thanks.
No, I buy mine from Happiness Farms.
Thanks Julie but I did not see where Happiness has the Thai caladiums. Was I missing something?
I misunderstood. I thought they were looking for Caladiums in general. Sorry for the mix up. Julie :)
No problem :-)
Good to be reminded about Happiness; a friend from that area used to bring me bulbs from them years ago.
Another DG member and I placed an order with NeoFarm in early February, and paid by PayPal. Several inquiries about shipment went unanswered until March 23rd, when they advised shipment had been made, and gave us a tracking number. The shipment did leave Thailand, and will let y'all know if the shipment matches the order, and the condition of the plants when received. Their website is VERY persuasive and the prices are right.
Let us know what you thought please. Thanks!
We finally received the shipment, I believe that some of our order was :"grown to order", the probable reason for the delay and the small size of the plants. The corms only part of the order was fine,--just an assortrment (theirs) of various sized and unlabelled corms. We'll see how these turn out. The aglaonema and sanseverras were excellent and at very good prices.
Although the named varieties came as bare root corms with leaves (for identification purposes), they were too dry and dessicated so show color or markings. We'll just have to give them new names when they bloom. Have the planted in small pots under a propagator, but no growth after 10 days, I know they are slow, but 10 days under light and heat should send something peeking above ground.
More when they bloom.
I hope so!!!! Hang in there. Julie
Most of the corms (about 80%) have broken ground and have leaves. They are much smaller than the ones to which we are accustomed, but the colors are more vivid. I have planted them out in the garden, but they don't make much of a statement. There was little information on the website about mature size, but I have doubts that these will grow to the size we usually see. So far, the largest is only about 3" high.
Unless they grow bigger and faster than they have, they are of use only to a collector. Will write more if the situation changes
My Thais are just now coming up as well, although I did not obtain them from NeoFarm. They are smaller but do respond to regular liquid feeds (weekly or biweekly). In fact, without the regular feeds, they may not grow much. I have a friend who grows these professionally and he has them on an automatic drip system that injects fertilizer solution into the irrigation stream each time watering occurs. Of course, the concentration is not high, but it is regular. His plants grow beautifully.
For the record, I use about 1/4 strength Miracle Gro and apply twice per week.
