Mike, are you here? Wonder if anyone has had luck in growing these from seed. I started some last year and got a few to sprout but lost them when I left town. This time I hope to pin the branches down to get them to root. Have some seeds left but I don't know this secret.
For those of you who have never seen it, it's especially great in the spring (fragrant flowers that attract butterflys) and fall (rosey bracs and turquoise seeds) but whenever there's leaves, there's the scent of Skippy Peanut Butter when rubbed, really fun for kids. I think Ruby likes it too. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/772/
Peanut Butter Shrub
Ahhh Vi - you know me...I try to get plants when ever possible...impatient I know....but we DO have a shorter growing season (that's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it). Someone blessed me with one...which reminds me - I should check on it. Looks like Ken has you set up though. I love our DGers...everyone is so generous!!!
BTW Ken - what's the difference between the two?

Thanks Ken, but I don't need any more plants, I work in Florida now, and am rarely home. I was just wondering how well the seeds worked. Is the Glory Bower the one that looks pretty but stinks?
Vi, Herlequin Glory Bower is the one you call peanut butter and I think both have a nice fragreants. The harlequin gets about 12 feet tall and does not freeze back and the Javanese only gets to about 6 feet and does freeze back. We are planting three Harlequins in a group out in full sun on top of a hill. I want to see just how many bees, butterflys and humingburds we can atract. Our one tree is loaded all summer long. It is nice with friends living close with lots of land, it lets you try things you can't at home. That gives you an understanding of what is possable.
Seriously? Smells like PB? That's really cool. Sounds like it's a good one to add to the back of the fence row some day -- also sounds (from PF comments) like that's the best place for it, since it seems to volunteer with enthusiasm. LOL
Has anybody tried winter sowing the seeds? From the reports of volunteer seedlings, I'm guessing that might work well.
Javanese Glory Bower - if you have an extra plant or two, I'd like to trade for them! I had two and they both died late this fall.
Vi, sorry I just saw this post. Yes, they grow from seed easy.Direct sow them, when ripe. They sprout easly. You can also WS them in milk jugs. 4 to a jug. Mike
