Does DG have a computer forum?

Central, VA(Zone 7b)

I hope I don't get in trouble for posting here on the MA gardening forum. My desk computer (Gateway circa 2003) crashed and I must buy a new one quickly. I'm thinking a Dell from Costco but would consider another brand, another vendor...something with enough memory for uploading my occassional garden pictrures, attaching my laptop through router, paying bills, nothing fancy. I had hoped to wait for the new windows 7 operating system but don't know when that's expected. If anyone has recently purchased a new desk top, I'd be glad for advice or direction to perhaps a better place to post this message. Miss all your posts because I don't want to use an unsecured computer. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Pam

Hi Pam, Why on earth would you get in trouble for posting your question here?? We are here to help. Yes, there is a forum for computing.

From the home page go to Communities.

Click on Discussion Forums.

Go over to the far right column under Leisurely Pursuits

About a third of the way down is "Computer Talk"

It took me a few minutes to find it, but I knew it was there somewhere!

Good luck with your search.

Pam, I'm sure I read that new computers bought just prior to Windows 7 would come with a certificate to upgrade to 7 for free. Be sure to check on that when you buy.

Yep, here's the info. There's a list of participating brands. You'll want to click through and make sure the model you're buying is included.

Pam, Apple is also doing the same thing with their new operating system for Macbbooks. If you are considering that option, ask for the new software. Good point, Hart

Thank you both. Can always count on my DG buddies. Pam
