It looks like a Cast Iron plant, not Ginger.

Someone else suggested that - could be right. Does anyone know if cast iron plants get rhizomes like that? I can't find any photos of a cast iron plants roots. . .

If the leaves are very then but very tough it may be CIP. Ginger leaves are thicker and will tear easily.
I didn't try to tear them, I'll check that out tomorrow, but I think they are probably tougher than a ginger leaf now that you say that.

yes that's cast iron...and if you don't get ALL the roots out..you will still have babies...acts like a canna. lol lol lol lol
