Look at my freebie

I went to a chicken swap today and was given a golden pencil laced hamburg rooster.She wanted to find him a good home so I took him.She said they are rare is this true,seems to me if that was the case why would he be free.He is small so he will not tear the feathers out of my hens.He is the one on the roost

I think the Hamburgs come in penciled or spangled. I can't see him very well, but I had one once. He wasn't very friendly, but he wasn't aggressive either. As to getting him free, it's often possible to get even (to quote Murray McMurray) "The Rarest of the Rare" roosters free. They can be more a liability than an asset, especially if pet quality (I don't mean to imply that yours is). I have someone who would happily give me a couple of true Auracana roos, if I could just figure out how to get them from her to me:)

Meant to add this;

I didn`t know anything about them so I looked them up and it said they are flighty and not very friendly,which he is.

Hi Green: Your right, they are very flighty and not very personable, However keep in mind that an aful lot of people who keep chickens feel they are just chickens and could care less about befriending them. I have some lakenvelders and they are the same way, I also have some minorcas and they are terribly flighty. Yet I have found them to be much frendlier if you spend enough time with them. My minorcas are not supposed to be broody, but three of five are brooding right now. They are not friendly supposedly but they now follow me everywhere. I think time spent with them makes a hugh difference. Enjoy him and chances are he will learn to enjoy you also.

This morning when I went out to let them out he was on top of the feed box but when I checked him last night after dark he was on the roost with the rest of the girls but one rung down so he was by himself.DH went out to see our new addtion and said one of the EE`S was chasing him everytime he tried to come down,I told him that in a weeks time they will all get along,the new bird always gets chased but he wants perfect harmony in the coop and thats not going to happen,there is always something lose of feathers sickness or just plain nasty birds.I`m sure after he has been here for awhile he will know that no harm will come to him and he will settle down a bit.
