I have the last week gotten 8 eggs that can't be chicken eggs..they look like duck eggs..my eggs are normally very large, and barely fit into an extra large carton, but these won't even sit in a jumbo carton..they just rest on top..and they are so white..i have never had a golden comet lay eggs like this..i know this gal has got to have a sore butt..lol

Yipes!! What gives??
It does happen sometimes. You probably have a double or maybe even a triple-yolker there. Just this past week I saw a news report about a farmer in Rochester NY who found a giant egg in his coop. It weighed just over a quarter pound. I guess the record is actually held by an egg laid in China somewhere.
Either you have very small hands or that is a BIG egg! Do any of your chickens look tired or sore?
I have gotten jumbo eggs occasionally with double yolks from certain birds--but yours is pretty spectacular. Are you eating them or trying to hatch them?
I've been raising chickens for about 12 yrs now and have never had eggs like this..they arent fertile, so we have eaten a couple of them..they arent even double yolks..just a big eggs..
i weighed the one in my hand and it weighed 7ounces..yipes..none of my chickens are tired or walking funny..lol..i am getting one everyday..

We got two eggs like this in the last week. I don't know who laid them. We have golden comets and rhode island reds. Both of our super big eggs had double yolks in them and they were good. We don't have any roosters so there are no fertile eggs.
RIP, Roberta. You sure gave it all you had.
HONEOYE FALLS, N.Y. -- A farmer in upstate New York is excited about a monster discovery in his chicken coop.
Chris Schauerman, of Honeoye Falls, N.Y., found an ailing chicken inside his chicken coop when he went out for daily chores last week.
"I came up to the chicken and I nudged her. She was barely able to pick her head up before it fell back down to the ground," he said.
The chicken, known as Roberta, died later that night, but not before leaving behind a giant egg.
"I just couldn't believe it," Schauerman said. "You open up the chicken coop, and sitting inside the nest with five other eggs is just this behemoth."
Little Roberta, as the egg is now known, came in at two and a half times the size of a normal egg.
"We kind of related it to a woman having a 25-pound baby, if you do the math," Schauerman said. "I'm pretty sure that's what eventually led to the death of the chicken."
He called the discovery a bittersweet moment.
"I was pretty excited when I saw it but also kind of sad because I knew the chicken put forth its last effort to give this egg," he said.
Schauerman weighed the egg in a laboratory at his workplace, and it came it at 138 grams. That's more than one-fourth of a pound.
The Guinness Book of World Records once listed a 142-gram egg as the world record holder. A farmer in China recently claimed an egg of 201 grams.
So what's next for the monster egg? Schauerman's friend, a teacher at a nearby school, plans to take it to class for show and tell.
After that, like many others before, it's destined for the frying pan.
"I'm gonna make an omelet. Maybe a little ham. Delicious!" Schauerman said
I got the same type of egg this week, difference is, I helped my hen lay it.. I took one look at her and knew she was in trouble, I thought she was egg bound.. I noticed she was pushing and walking.. and very large and almost inside out back there.. my dh held her and each time she pushed I moved the egg.. finally it popped out.. OMG.. it was like delivering the baby goat!
This brown egg is an X-large egg.. the whitish one id the delivered egg.
Why do you think some chickens are laying such huge eggs? Do you think it has something to do with their food?
WOW Cindy!!! What kind of steroids are you using on them girls. I have gotten some very large eggs but you and Fran, I don't know how a hen can keep on laying something that big and live. Maybe there is something to prehistoric monsters. Chicken Monsters. Hay
I know they can "hold" thier eggs.. I also know that there are several eggs at several stages at any given time.. So my personal therory (and I know NOTHING) is.. when the girls decide, for whatever reason, ie it's raining, it's hot. it's cold, you yelled at me.. WHATEVER.. they choose not to lay.. for however many days,, those eggs are held, yet continue to some rate of developing.. so.. would that not help by creating a larger egg.. I know a thicker shell.. but ok scientist.. how do we get more innereds in the shell???
SO if they can hold eggs like that.. is that why one of my hens is randomly laying a fully rotten egg? I collect eggs every morning & night so its not like I'm just missing one every so often or something. I laid the first one gently on the kitchen cabinet & it exploded.. nasty rotten egg everywhere. it was still warm from where it had been laid even. I hope these girls start laying better. So far i get very few eggs.. like 2 a week out of 20, 5 to 10 month olds. I can't paste the link on here.. but there was an article in the Joplin Globe newspaper. A friend of mines, nephews chicken laid an U shaped egg. It was a true story.. i saw the original egg. You might google that & read it if anyone is interested.

here is the link.
My hens are 24 weeks old. Up until two days ago we were picking up 10 eggs a day. Yesterday we picked up 12. Today we picked up 13. How is that possible? How can a dozen hens lay 13 eggs?
I'm not complaining but just wondering if they can lay more than one egg a day. The eggs are all good with thick shells and great size.
I've learned so much on this forum. Thank you so much to all who contribute and educate us.
When the hens are young, they will frequently have doubles. I had one that laid triples about one time a month. It was the same size as my goose eggs. My dad didn't believe that it was a hen egg until I cracked one of them into a bowl in front of him and out came three nice large yolks!
I miss having chickens! Too much work for the old and infirm! LOL

i'm still getting the big eggs..all my girls are golden comets..they have given me big eggs all the time, but not like these. i'm gonna make some BIG omlets tomorrow nite..

Not sure about the rotten egg idea.. if they could hold them until they rot, then why not until a chick is born? But.. who knows????
