Funny Leaf, Wilfred.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Belize Breeze finally bloomed, Wilfred. Not a good picture of the bloom because of the sunlight but shows the leaves pretty good. Will post another picture of the bloom.

I love these leaves! I didn't know some could have these!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

This shows the bloom better. Pretty pink. This is from the Trade Winds series from Yoder Bros.
Has your plant with the funny leaves bloomed, Wilfred? Going to try some cuttings on the 9th. Tell me exactly what you do with them.

Leeuwtje, I didn't either. But reading older posts I'm still puzzled. They said juvenile plants could have these leaves but change when the plant matured. This is one I've had 2-3 years so it is an established plant. Even the color of the leaves is different....not as green as most Hibs. Just an interesting tidbit to show everyone. Even wondered if it was an acetosella but from the bloom you can tell its a tropical Hib. Have yours bloomed,
Wilfred?

Hi Judy, in a matter fact one of mien opened just recently, just didn't have the time to post it, its like an dark orange color ( the one in the photo ) and a previous one I named "Jillian " and there leave haven't changed ether, I'm still waiting for the dark bronze color leave ones to bloom, only three of them stayed that color but I notice that does were the one that the leaves started green and than turn to that nice looking dark bronze color. the one that started out dark bronze color and then turned to green have all stayed green completely, no bronze color in them. most of the other hib that had different leave pattern have changed but again some have stayed the same as when the first came out, only two have bloomed until now, waiting for the rest to bloom to see what comes out.

BTW, The bloom on your is gorgeous, we have to exchange some cutting Judy, only have to wait a little longer for mien to get big enough to take cutting from it.

Judy have you tried to cross pollinate it yet with other hibs, if your lucky you might get more hibs with that nice leaf pattern with different color blooms.

Hey Leeuwtje, how good are you with cutting propagation, let me know.

Thanks Tina, if every thing come out like I want I send you some cutting of my seedlings as well.

Debbie, the name I had the honor to name it is "My Friend Patrick" after my friend Patrick, BTW, whats your favorite Hib color.

Jon what do we have to do for you to post some of your beauties, baig! LOL!

Wilfred

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Wilfred, I did try to cross pollinate but it was during a really hot spell. Read later that the temp should be between 60-80 F & it was 105 here. Does the damp affect pollination? Its cooler now but rainy. I can take cuttings of this one & try to root it for you. Have something else you want that I need to root too. Looking at your plants & making my wish list....fair warning, Wilfred.

Wilfred I am very good with cutting propagation. Almost everything I put in my soil grows roots.
I am a very big fan of all kinds of tropical plants. I am a member of the Dutch orangery club. I use a heated mat and an extra lamp sow the rooting will go faster. It is already getting colder here and without that it is much more difficult.
By the way, do you mean what I hope you mean and you want to try to send me some cuttings?
Okijaner also send me cuttings from her country and they arrived well and I am already trying to root them.

Jori

That is exactly what I'm planing Jori, would need your mailing address if you can D-mail it to me I'll try to send you some hib cutting and maybe some other tropical plants.

Wilfred, I will Dmail you tomorrow. Does anyone else have trouble getting Dmail to load??? Reminds me of my old dial up connection.

Judy

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Wilfred, I was going to try to pollinate this pink Belize Breeze & when I got ready to put the pollen on the pads I noticed it did not have pads. Had 3 open blooms but no pads on any of them. So, I will root cuttings. Is this unusual??? I've never noticed it before except on doubles which I don't think it is unusual for them. Right??? Think I have a versi color white that is opening. Will try the pink to the white. Its not nice to fool with Mother Nature.
Have a great week, everyone.

Judy
