Ebay greenthumb3000 Thailand?

Huntington Station, NY(Zone 7a)

Hi! Has anyone ordered from greenthumb3000 on ebay? Does anyone know if he correctly id's plants, quality, etc?

(Zone 1)

I don't know anything about that seller, but then again I don't shop on e-bay so I wouldn't have any experience to share regarding any seller there, LOL. I just found his store and I see he is located in Thailand so you'd probably have to pay for a phytosanitary certificate or whatever the exporting fees are etc. for shipping to the U.S. Hopefully someone who has dealt with him will come along with some advice for you. And, if you do order, please let us know how your experience is!

The Thai sellers, I have found, are about 50/50. I generally order species hoyas with no names as new stuff is coming in to them all the time from the jungle....I think they try but again....they are more interested in cashing in on a hobby and making money than being correct.

Huntington Station, NY(Zone 7a)

Hmmmm....interesting point. I may take a chance and place an order just to see what happens. At least I'll have something "exciting" (or not) to report back here...LOL! Right now it's getting cooler, which means all plants indoors in the sunroom for the winter... (boooooo)

There is another seller from Thailand...I think his name is Apodagis..and his plants are great. I ordered a small retusa and a small lyi (which is actually sp. square, I think), and they arrived in wonderful shape and are very healthy. The sp. square has doubled in size since getting it less than a year ago.

Gabi: I've seen that name Apodagis before when googling about plants. I just googled and found their website: http://www.apodagis.com/

Looks like they have Hoya as well as other plants, think I will go check it out.

(Zone 1)

Oh my goodness, that one called lyi is so furry! http://www.apodagis.com/Hoyas/unknown_hoyas/sp_aff_lyi.htm Very cool!

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 5a)

Apodagis also sells on eBay. I purchased a H. sigillatis from him for 9.99 and it was a very nice plug with 4 cuttings (eBay listing said 3 cuttings.)

He has not recently had anything on eBay up for auction or buy-it-now. The H. sigillatis plug was a buy-it-now.

I was just on ebay and saw a new Thai seller - Plumeri?????. He has an imperialis (Red) listed and the flower shows stuff that make it look virused. I wouldn't get that one!!! Most of his species names looked ok but the 'cultivar' or 'show names' seem mostly made up!!!!

I also think he/she will have a hard time getting plants that big into the US.

Fatplant sure has some nice looking plants!!!! Beautiful H. obovata!!!!

hmm...Ive just ordered a couple from Plumeri..Ill let you know what arrives and how it looks

I haven't ordered from them, but looks like they have very good feedback from US sellers. There sure has been a little surge of Thai sellers on ebay!

OK, a friend of mine purchased a few hoyas from greenthumb3000 and I have to say they are georgeous! Very healthy, HUGE specimen plants with tons of penduncles, buds and blooms.....I think 3 out of the 4 are correctly ID's from the leaf and flower, but 1 is questionable...then again, with the way the names change, who knows! Shipping is fair considering they are coming all the way from Thailand.....

Lin,

That picture that you linked to of sp. lyi is nothing like what mine looks like. How strange! And I definitely got mine from Apodagis! Here is a picture of mine...looks nothing like the one he has on his website:

Not sure why that pic came out as a thumbnail (at least on my computer). Anyway, let me try again. As you can see, the leaves are rectangular-shaped and I wouldn't really describe them as fuzzy. I wonder why he sold this as H. lyi, and on his page is a totally different plant. Maybe he has the true H. lyi, and I got the H. sp. square. Anyone else order this one from him?

oops ... that link I posted above does say aff. lyi

I went googling and found this one that says it originally was labeled lyi and now changed to Hoya sp. square ... looks a lot like your plant:, scroll down this page a tad for large photo's http://cgi.ebay.com/Rare-Hoya-sp.-Square--rare-Hoyas--Exact-size-_W0QQitemZ270461779456QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090927?IMSfp=TL090927147003r18469

Found this old thread when googling too, plant in question looks like yours: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/768414/#post_3944172

I forgot to say: I don't much about Hoyas and am not good at comparing pictures most of the time but the one above and the one I linked to at Apodagis' site are totally different! I like that one you have ... love the shiny leaves, and I love the furry leaves on that one that Apodagis has too! Now I'm really curious as to the true names of both!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Are you getting whole plants from him?

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Lin, no problem. I think the one labeled sp. aff. lyi (or something like that) on Apodagis' website is closer to the actual H. lyi. The one I have is supposedly H. sp. Square. I looked at the 2 links you posted, and mine is the same as both of the pictures in the link. The second link is the exact same one I had, and was also gotten from the same place as the poster (from Asiatica). It didn't last long though.

What I love about sp. Square is the shape of the leaves and how hard they are. They are almost unbreakable!

Carol, are you asking me that question? If so, then yes...the 2 plants I got from him are whole plants but were very very small.

Lin, here's the one that I got from Asiatica (the one that the poster in the second link you posted had):

And here's a close-up of a leaf from that plant (same as the one I have now):

Very different, I like those leaves, they look more rectangular to me, rather than square, LOL. Maybe at some point the name will change to H. sp. rectangle. It's a cool looking plant!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

From what I remember...H. lyi hasn't been determined and it is H. aff. lyi. Could be wrong....

Interesting...would love to get some of his plants....

San Francisco, CA

There's two different plants here- the one called Hoya sp. square was originally determined as lyi, but that seems to be wrong, and now it is called sp. square.
The other one, a newer collection called aff. lyi, is similar to Hoya thomsonii, and may be the real Hoya lyi.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

LOL, Carol, what would you possibly be wanting from Asiatic?

Dee

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes Mark, that aff. lyi really does remind me of H. thomsonii. I might just have to put it on my list (when I have more room).

Gabi

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

OH, I will still collect...the unnamed, the wierd and the wonderful!!!!

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Well then that makes it easier. LOL

Hello everyone. I'm Hoya lover in Thai, Regarding Apodagis is not Greenthumb3000, this is website of Greenthumb3000; www.greenthumb3000.com

Huntington Station, NY(Zone 7a)

Just to provide an update to everyone::::I've purchased 7 hoyas from greenthumb3000 on ebay and the plants are doing WONDERFULLY great...they are beautiful, full healthy plants with tons of bloom spurs.......and shipping was lightening fast......

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

WOW...I have to look at the site more...but some of his variegated plants are mucho/muy/tres EXPENSIVE!!!! Wish I could sell them for that!!!

Huntington Station, NY(Zone 7a)

His plants are so large in size that you could easily make 20-30 plants from cuttings...and they would be very NICE size cuttings at that! =)

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Do they come into the states with a phyto?

Do you need an import permit?

Carol

North Augusta, ON

Do you have a pic. of them?? we love pictures of Hoyas...

Huntington Station, NY(Zone 7a)

Camera is down so no pics yet....but if you check out the pics on his website or ebay, what you see is what you get....Also, he charges a phyto fee of $5/order which is not bad.....No import permit needed.......
