I would like to grow an espalier apricot tree on the east face of my garage. Has anyone grown them in our area? My favorite eating types are strongly flavored, like the Blenheim. I don't care for the bland overly sweet Mediterranean type. Any comments on issues with growing these in central NC, on the best varieties, or espalier??
Apricots - any success?
Hmmm...for some reason I have an interest in apricots, too.
Will be waiting for some input!
Happy Gardening, folks!

Now you have me interested! I've been looking for a tree to replace a silver maple I took out. I found this site:

Thanks for that link, X! No wonder rroyce wants a Blenheim, it looks like a keeper to me!

Fast Growing Trees (in Charlotte) will not ship until mid to late November. Is that too late to plant in NC? BTW, they should be renamed Fast Talking Trees - sheesh!! Has anyone had experience buying from this outfit?
Good question, and glad you brought that up...
Garden Watchdog shows fastgrowingtrees is part of Empress Trees Nurseries and they have a couple negative reports (out of nine total reports).

However, it gets worse. Turns out Empress Tree Nursery/FastGrowingTrees is also affiliated with Brighter Blooms Nursery and they have many negative reports, 13 negatives out of a total of 17.

After reading a few reports, even involving the BBB and multiple complaintsI think I'd shy away from them.
Shoe.
Yep .. you have a point there. I'll keep looking.
but I thought Fall and winter was the time to plant trees while they are dormant!

i've heard many mixed reports on when to plant fruit trees here.
they are for sale in spring mostly, but have heard they would struggle to get established with good roots before the hot weather set in.
they are hard to find in early fall, but heard that's a good time to plant so they get their roots established before winter, then they have good roots by the time the heat of the next summer hits. makes sense, as most perennials are good to plant early September here.
I very much miss apricot trees! lived for a time in PNW and had apricot trees nearby that folks would let me glean from. have a dynamite preserves recipe! am going to keep an eye on this to see what y'all find out.

People seem to like this nursery, I've never order from them.
Bonjon I would plant in the early fall unless you are planting something more tropical like an orange.
