Question about flowering

mazatlan, Mexico

I used to have the most beautiful hibiscus plant - it almost always had at least 8 - 10 flowers blooming. Last month, in an effort to get rid of white flies, I sprayed the plant with a solution of soap and water, and every single leaf on the whole plant died and fell off! This plant is about 4 feel tall and 3 feet wide, so that incident was a real heartbreaker. The good news is that now the entire plant is filled with gorgeous dark green leaves, but there's not a bud in sight. Should I be worried, or is the plant just using all it's energy to make leaves right now?

As always, thanks so much in advance!

What type of soap did you use, what I use is transparent dish washer liquid early in the morning or late in the evening and hose it off after an hour, I do this for several day until I get rid of them. I wouldn't worry for now, plant is just removing the damaged leaves and growing new one to produce the chlorophyll it need to survive and produce blooms. could be a while before you see some buds on it. Just give it some time to recover and do its thing.

I agree, I wouldn't worry that it's not flowering. It takes energy to grow all new leaves like that, so I'd expect it'll take a little time for it to be ready to produce flowers again.

Thanks, that's what I figured, but I wanted to get a second opinion.

I used a green dish washing soap, diluted with water 4:1. I live in Mexico, so maybe the soap here is different or something, I'm not sure. I used it to spray 4 hibiscus plants and a lantana, and 3 of the hibiscus survived. After losing every single leaf, the lantana and the other hibiscus never did come back.

can you get your hands on Castille soap? It's very gentle and pure. Just a thought.
