Hope I didn't miss a recent post. What can you tell me about this? Is it ok to store the two near each other?
How about in the same refrigerator? Refrigeration probaby isn't the best for potatoes, but the few hills I dug will fit into the storage drawers in a refrigerator and I am now getting apples. Entire basement in the house is heated so not a lot of choice, but it might be possible to put one in a cooler in the unheated garage for awhile if they aren't good companions.

Storing potatoes and apples together
Not a good idea. Potatoes should be stored in a dark, dry, cool place. Apples need a higher humidity. Apples also give off ethylene gas that will make your potatoes go bad.
I don't remember "why" but I know that apples and potatoes should not be stored together. LTilton is probably right - it's the ethylene gas - although I seem to remember that apples stored with some veggies makes the veggies taste bad.
