I have a new lemon tree that has been blooming on my deck this late sep. I am days if not hours away from bringing it inside for the winter but am desperately hoping that the flowers will get pollinated before I do so. I noticed these really small bugs on the flowers and have no idea what they are, or how dangerous it would be to bring them into my house (for the safety of my other plants). Has anyone seen these little buggers before or can anyone recommend a treatment so they don't post up in my living room for the winter?
Help! Insects found on Lemon tree in Bloom-
I'm not sure what your insects are, but fyi it's easy to pollinate your tree yourself with a Q-tip. I did that successfully last winter, but lost all the fruit early on - I think I either didn't have enough sun or a didn't fertilize well enough.
My plant didn't blossom until much later - I think it was after Christmas . . .
Don't know the bugs but I have seen them before, running around everything. I would try to spray them off with a hose before the other buds open-up. If that doesn't work , spray in with a houseplant spray before the other buds open. Then you will still have a chance to pollinate your future blossom.
Hard to see, but might be Thrips.
