Reading about propagation of bulbs from cuttage, scooping, scoring, twin scaling, etc, has me itching to give it a try!
What I really would like to know from folks who have tried these methods is what worked for you?, what didn't work and why? Which bulbs are the easiest to start with? Anyone have propagated bulbs that have bloomed and if so, how long did that take? I would love to see pictures of your projects!
Thanks for sharing! Ms. Tommie
Tips for propagating bulbs - what works for you?
The only bulbs I've intentionally propagated vegetatively were Lilies by scaling. It depends on the variety, but some bloom the 3rd year. I have found bulbs that I've sliced through with a trowel, that have formed lots of baby bulbs around the wound, I think I've had this happen with both Daffodils and Hyacinths. With most bulbs I just let them increase naturally and divide the clumps in a few years, which typically yields plenty of babies.
