i had a fire in the spring that took my 16 x 20 shed and all my equipment and burnt 4 of my big apple trees. the side from the fire stayed green but dropped all the fruit from shock i guess. my question is should i trim the tree back drastically and take all the damaged branches of or let it green out next year and trim from there. just trying to lose as few growing seasons as possible.
if needed i can put pic's on for better assessment. thanks "whitebear"
prunning fire damages tree question
I had some fire damaged trees at my land last year. The trees that were trimmed back in winter did much better than the ones that were not. They were not fruit trees. I would stick with standard winter pruning.
thanks jujubetexas i was thinking that would be the best bet but wanted some backup lol
Yes. I have seen trees try to send nutrients to damaged branches for a whole Spring only to lose the branch in Summer. I would take what looks bad off and let nature do the rest.
