Pretty double

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Just noticed this today. This is an apricot double that looks more gold today than apricot color. Had it sitting on an old, metal kitchen stool & when I went to move it last week I noticed the fire ants were taking over. So, I sprinkled some fire ant granules on the stool & added a few to the pot itself. Could this cause the color change? It had been the color of the Apricot Crape I posted earlier this week. I really like it better this color!

Just beautiful Judy, it does look really beautiful in that gold color, I think it could be two things, weather change, maybe a little colder or the fire ant granules you used to kill the fire ants, don't think it would be the fire ants themselves, I have the same problems with those darn little critters and mien don't change color so it maybe some of the chemicals the granules have. Oh, there may be a third reason, it miet be a sport of the hibiscus plant it self, I would mark that branch and see if it keeps blooming this way, who knows, you miet have a new hib from cutting you make from it if it turns out to be a sport.

Judy she is pretty that golden color, I can't wait to see if the next bloom is apricot or gold. Hi Wilfred, good to see you!

I think it is the fire ant granules, Wilfred. Going to try to add a picture taken before I treated for the ants.

Quite a difference, right? Maybe I should add the granules & give it a name. :-) It is just a GV apricot double. But the golden color makes it look special to me. Fixing to send you an email, Deb.

Oooh! that's cheating! Judy, LOL! though it does looks kind of special. Doesn't it have a name that you know of already, I know I don't the name but it should have one.

No name that I know of Wilfred. Just apricot double. Was my 1st double & I thought I had died & gone to heaven when I bought it. Really had to cut this one back & it was very hard to do as it was always full of buds. Has another bud which should open in a day or two & so far its looking gold. May toss some of that fire ant stuff on another plant to see what happens. Will keep y'all posted.

Hey Judy, I was checking the Plant File and came across a hib that goes by the name of "Apricot Brandy" that looks pretty much like ours, check it out and tell me what you think. here's a photo of my hib that looks like yours.

Wilfred, that does look like our plants. The next bloom was back to the apricot color. May have been the fire ant granules that changed the bloom. Hate those little demons!

Nice bloom Judy. I think the change in color is most likely to be due to the weather conditions and/or the change in colors that blooms go through as they mature (stay open). You can see very different coloration on blooms during the course of the year. Some varieties have very vivid coloration in cooler weather and duller tones during hot weather.

Thanks, Jon. We have had temp changes & more rain than normal. But, it sure would be nice to have it stay that golden yellow color. I've got a yellow dbl which hasn't bloomed yet. Got plenty of yellow in my yard. My 6th & last Angel Trumpet opened & its another yellow. So much for Direct Gardening's combo of 1 pink, 1 white & 1 yellow. At least they are beautiful & blooming like crazy.

You'll begin to appreciate the various coloration of the blooms. It gives them their uniqueness. Pink/yellow/white is a good color combination scheme. Sometimes things just come out they way we envisioned them, but that's ok. I guess you'll have to go out plant hunting for something that's pink then? That can be fun.

To bad I can't get mien to set seeds pod since it miet have that golden yellow gene in it that could maybe pass it on to a seedling, that would be great. I have a hot pink one, if you want I can make a cutting for you Judy.
