our yard/garden project

Rockport, TX(Zone 9b)

I thought people might be interested in seeing an online photo album about our landscaping project. We live a couple of blocks from Aransas Bay in Rockport. Our area is very low-lying. We started by taking a landscaping class put on by the local ag/master gardener office in the fall of 2006, and then in late spring 2007 added fill dirt on our extra lot and built a drop-down deck extension with spiral stairs to the yard. I came up with the idea of the deck extension, two steps down from the main deck, as a way to improve our view. The horizontal railing had always obscured the water view.
The photo album opens to an index page; just click a picture to get started.
We planted many natives, and I have enjoyed nurturing the beachy weeds (Padre Island mistflower, gulf cordgrass, camphor daisy, suaeda, etc.

We have a cousin & DH that live in Rockport most of the yr.
Just had to see what your project looks like! It is awesome considering what soil (nott) you had to contend with, or not!
It looks great. We will have to come see you when we come down to visit the cousins!
:~)

Your hard work and determination has certainly paid off. You've made your own little oasis down there.

Yes, it's our own little park. Good thing, too, because our view of the bay is being ever more obscured by new construction. I hope we keep getting the sunlight as more houses go up.
