Going to try to hatch some babies

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

The lady taking care of my animals while I was in the hospital suggested I let some eggs stay in to see if I can get some babies... Ok I said, so she marked 8 from Billys and 4 from mine so I wont pick them up when I collect the new eggs. She said I should know by Wednesday, so here is the question.... What am I to look for? a hen sitting on them? them getting rolled around? can someone shed some light on this??

Thanks

Usually after seven days you can candle the eggs and see spidery looking veins growing inside of the egg and possibly even an embryo. Candling can be difficult for some having never done it before but just handle the egg gently in a very dark room and use a good strong flashlight and funnel shapped paper that creates a small quarter size light and put it against the egg. Good luck Hay

thanks Haystack, I will try that.. I have read about candleing on here before, I think I can do it..

i found that a 1 inch across LED flashlight worked better than anything with mine but i was candling bantam eggs too. i got the flashlight free in the pack of AA batteries I bought. works beautifully for that & spotting stray chickens in low branches of trees.. doesn't work for much else tho.

I have one of them Clippy lights that is a LED I use in the winter when its dark so my hands are free, other than that I have a big mag light. That is what I was going to use...

the mag light is great as you cannarrow the beam down to a half dollar or quarter and thats perfect. Good luck to you, my hero.

Hi Greykyttyn: I miss talking to you, are you still comming out.
