I have two large butterfly ginger (hedychium coronaria) which are about 1 year old.
They are not blooming. Do they have to be older?
Do they need fertilizer? (They are 5 - 6 feet tall and quite full.)
This has been a hot summer and the first half of the summer was dry.
Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Roger

my hidden ginger never bloomed either

My butterfly gingers that are in full sun are blooming like crazy. The ones in part sun did not bloom this year.
Mine are in afternoon sun and have had ONE bloom only!
mine are in shade , I have about 27 of them and not one bloomed.

Thanks for all the responses. My ginger gets morning sun. I did not think that they would grow in full sun so I'd like to hear more about that. I guess it is down to the weather.
My hedys are all in full sun and they've always bloomed and multiplied well.
Mine are in full shade under a live oak tree and are blooming like crazy. They have been planted there since 2006. At first there wasn't any blooms. Then the next year, just a couple, then more and now, many.
I guess patience is the pattern I'm seeing on several plants.
Did they ever bloom? Mine bloomed around that time or earlier and faded away and then all of a sudden I noticed they are blooming again more prolifically NOW.
Nope Mine never Bloomed. = (
I'm sure next year they will .
I thought this year would have been the year with all the good rain we had
but guess not .
