I recently put some fresh (less than a week old) eggs in a pot to boil - one of them floated. I decided no way it could be bad and cooked it like the others; it continued to float. I marked it, and when it was done, I cracked it open. It had an extra air pocket, irregularly shaped, on the side. Other than that it was fine. Has anyone else found eggs like this, and what causes them?
Floating Egg
I've seen some weirdos.. but not double air cells! Never know I guess. :) That was wise though.. if it was yuckie... that could have been really bad.
I collected eggs one afternoon, only get 2 a day right now. I check several times a day for eggs. Newly laid egg was very much rotten. Does that ever happen to anyone? I never thought to check it when i went to cook it for dinner that night. Barely touched it & it exploded all over my counter top. I now check every egg, whether it was recently laid or 2 weeks old. I've thrown out a lot of them tho for floating instead of sinking in the water from the neighbors batch of eggs. I never thought to crack them open & look. I have peeled eggs with a double air pocket before but the air pocket was tinier than I usually find with our eggs & they didn't really float in the pan. The egg got turned in the pan a lot while boiling. I just figured that's what caused it. Will they explode as you hard boil them if they are bad? That's why i never take the chance i was afraid of them exploding.
