I saw this in bloom on a walk today, in the sides of the street that are completely wild and untended, no houses. Not extremely showy, but I like the darker/reddish stems. I have no idea what it is, anyone else know? Close up in the next post...

Plant ID please
I believe what you have there is St. Peterswort, Hypericum crux-andreae

Josephine.
I think you got it! Very cool. I think I'm going to try to transplant one or two into my yard, there were quite a few of them on my walk today. Thanks Josephine :)

I would have guessed St Andrews Cross. http://wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=HYCR3 We have a lot of it growing in this area. The leaf structure on St. Peters photo looks different to me. Any thoughts to help me better ID the two?
If you watch the seed pods on those plants, they will dry and then you can harvest seed. It will start easily. I've not tried relocating a plant so am unsure how it will transplant.
So it's definitely a Hypericum, but the species is unclear. I'll try to get better close-up pictures tomorrow of the leaves and flowers. I found some today growing on my property but I didn't collect any. Good to know I can just harvest seed and propagate it that way.
St John'swart?
Lisa
I want a baby or some seeds, pleasssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeee!
:~)
Smockette ~ I am uncertain how well it will transplant. It seems to grow in compacted soil and I've had difficulty digging them up in the past. I have saved and shared seeds before and will gladly do so again. I am uncertain about Bellzeys but this is the time of year this one blooms. I will watch for seeds and let you know.
Thank you,
:~)
I'll watch for seeds too. I didn't get a picture again because my camera died shortly afterward :(
Smockette ~ and anyone else interested...
While I was rebuilding a stretch of fence today, I noticed dried seed pods and have harvested a mess of teeny tiny seeds. I suspect it will be easy to start from seed as I have volunteers all over.
BTW, mine is St Andrews Cross.
If anyone wants seed, please dmail with your address. The postage is on me.
Somebody has a note in plantfiles looking for it, http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57274/ ...
Thanks for pointing me that direction. It appears a recent post so maybe I can accomodate her.
Podster, thank you for for the offer of seeds, you are very thoughtful, but Becky gave me two plants at the ETRU, I am sure others will be very glad to have them.
Josephine.
Excellent! I'm glad you received some. Were those the H. hypericoides or H. cruxandreae?
They are the H. cruxandreae.
