The poor chickens and one turkey that I bought off of craigs list have all doubled in size over the past month. The silkie has turned out to be definately a mix. She has no pouf on her head, but her sweet personality has won us over. The turkey is a huge tom, over three feet tall. He has gained about ten pounds and now struts with the others. It's pretty sad looking with his three tail feathers, but he thinks he's hot stuff. The cornish crosses are almost normal sized and finialy white again. A few more weeks and they go into the freezer. There have been no eggs from the layers yet, but we are hopeful now that they have gained weight and their feathers are clean. It's been amazing to watch them recover and start acting like chickens for the first time in their lives.
Update on Neglected Chickens
Wow! Thats great news and so glad to hear from you. It's amazing how animals recover even after having been neglected for so long. Hay.
hopefully people do too.
Well said my dear!!!
very happy to hear they are doing so well. Glad to hear from you too. This forum just isn't the same without you.
Thanks I needed that!
Hope all is going well otherwise, too. I'm very happy that the chickens are thriving!
