Tiny Red Hibiscus?

Spartanburg, SC

The plant from which I took this, blooms quite a bit more to the orange side than mine is blooming. It never opens all the way. The hummers like it. I looked but didn't see one posted like this and wondered if someone can tell me the name of it.

Dave,
Yes, It is it! Great and what a sweet name. Sleepy Hibiscus. I love it, and it is doing extremely well. The plant was at an old homeplace and I just dug some of it up and placed it out back. All three sprigs grew like mad and have bloomed their hearts out this summer. It will have to be moved later.

Eileen, start you some fr cuttings b4 you try to move your mother plants.
They grow wild here but when I try to move them or pot them up, my #s are less than half.
After 5 yrs, I now have 2 good pots of them. Now, if the deer would just leave them alone. Seems everytime they get really full of blooms, here come the deer. Maybe they have a scent that is inviting to the deer or it is just those bad teenagers that are dumb enough to eat anything! lol

They also call that one "Turk's Cap" .. I have this one also and have them listed as both in my trade list. Either way, they're cute and the yellow butterflies love them!

Did I mention that they also come in white & pink? Smock has all three out in Katy, west of Hou.

I knew they came in white, but didn't know they had pink too.. Hmmm how pretty that would be

I have what was labeled as "pink" but if it's pink it's extremely pale to the point of white. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow.

Aunt Anne, do you wanna trade some for Red? I have fresh seeds, lol

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

No, thanks I have a lot of the red. I have the pink/white in pots I need to plant them. My aunt lives near Dallas and hers are huge and reseed like crazy. She does nothing to them and they're just going wild. I pamper mine and they don't increase or grow taller. But they do come back each year. I love them.

Aww, well thank you anyway ;-) I need to go out and collect more seeds from it today. Funny how the seeds look like mice droppings! LOL
