advice for running electricity

Arlington, TX

I had a vision (of sorts) today. I have been wanting a pond for 3 years now but cannot figure out where it might go. Then it hit me that if I take down the white crape myrtle, a small pond could go in next to the patio I sit on each day. The crape will be a battle between my hubby and me but my problem is how to run an outdoor extention cord from the one place there is electricity to the newly dreamed of pond? How would you run it if there is a cement walkway in between?

Hard to advise ever removing a tree. Surely there is another wind around that could be considered.

It's not native and there are other trees on my lot, so I won't cry over it.

We ran a cord under a concrete sidewalk once. Very difficult. I would suggest "Googling" in case they have a better method than ours.

Yea I was wondering how hard that might be. Might have to get creative and put up an arbor and run it above instead of under. Do not worry over the trees in my yard. The white crape is a small ornamental tree that was planted in the wrong place by the preveous owners. I would not cut down a large or native tree without a very good reason. I have a large oak in the front and my lot is bordered by pink crape myrtles. Didn't mean to sound so heartless about the poor tree!

I have cut down Oaks 75 feet high because it was crowding out some of my larger Oaks. The definition of a weed is a plant out of place. You may have something with the arbor idea. You could always cut a strip out of the patio, run the wire and then patch the strip. It's a lot of work and the patch will always show. How wide is the patio? I have taken a water hose and connected it to a piece of pipe with a small pointed tip on the end and washed a hole under the slab.

It was only a walkway....I think I would give the washing with a high pressure hose a try, as Ken said; then feed a flexible hose made for wiring though it. If that won't work, you can cut a trench in it and sink a 2" PVC pipe that you can feed wiring through. Frame up the sides and pour over it.
We had the concrete company put two under a driveway when it was poured and came in very handy for a sprinkler system.

Will discuss with the husband. The walkway is narrow but bordered by the lawn and flower bed. I also have hard clay soil and I imagine that would make the hose trick more difficult. Will eroding out a portion under the walkway weaken it? If this is my task and not my husbands I am leaning towards the arbor with a wire running above the walkway as opposed to under it. Not sure how it will look so I need to think about it and look at the area better this weekend. Can't have a pond without running water!...and maybe a lotus if they will fit.
