tiG,you said to wait till fall to do things with my lotus seedlings. Its fall here.Next weeks night time temps are suppose to be in the low 40's ,upper 30's.Should I wait till frost ,or cut the leaves off now and trade them away?(Not all of them)My Mrs Perry Slocum seed head is turnning brown but the seeds are very tiny so I don't think they were fertile.Atleast I know how to winter the lotus over.I have to set up my other barrels for the taros and umbrella palms. My DH hates this time of the year, between the pond tropicals and the brugs there is little room to move in my livingroom. He agreed we can set up some lights for the brugs in one of the spare bedrooms ,but I have to move some stuff first. lotus seedlings
You have to let them die back on their own. Here is a wonderful article.

are you going to have divisions of your Mrs Perry Slocum ?
I don't think I'm going to divide it this year.I only had one bloom off it so that tells me its still not very big,and probably doesent have many tubers. My dwarf lotus still has a bud on it.Should open any day,but I won't get any seeds from that one .Too late in the season. Those links were good, very informative.Wish I had read the thing about putting each seedling in a seperate container. All my seedlings are in one large tub. you can divide in the spring too, that's what I did this year. Dont' know what I'm going to do with all the ones I started from seed. What was I thinking!!! Good luck:)

I could trade you a purple tropical waterlily for one of them :)

sounds good to me, but will you take more than one!! LOL!! I have to wait til they die back, but I'll put it in my tradetracker!
Tig
Do they multiply fast?? Do I really need more than one? I will send you more than one of these purple water-lilies then. They make a new plant on every leaf!!! The leaf spread on a mature plant is about 4 feet, but at least they bloom all summer and the blooms stay open in the daytime.

The older ones will put out tubers to divide, but it won't hurt to have a couple of babies. These will be one year old in the spring. You could put two in a tub together for the winter.
